They came from near and far, those who knew the four killed in a PHI helicopter crash, and those who didn't. All were in Bryan Wednesday to honor lives cut short.

Sometimes in circumstances like this, understandably so, people ask the question 'where is God?' My prayer is that we will all realize God is here is among us," said Dr. Tim Owens, Pastor at First Baptist Church in Bryan.

Rows of first responders filled First Baptist Bryan, their three lost co-workers weighing heavy on their hearts.

"We forget how precious life is, but on Sunday morning, we remembered," said David Dotson, PHI minister.

Among those remembered was pilot Wayne Kirby. Known to his grandchildren, as Poppaw, on his last day, Kirby was with them.

"He spent that day taking care of his grandchildren, taking them to a sailboat workshop, out to lunch, and then back home to play on a giant inflatable water slide he had bought for them," said Kirby's friend, Lt. Ralph Buentello.

Flight Medic Stephanie Waters, was also remembered. She was just 27.

"Stephanie absolutely loved the work she did. I smile when I remember her enthusiasm-how often she would sprint to the ambulance when the alarm sounded in middle of the night," said Vaughn Hamilton.

In flight nurse Jana Bishop also lost her life. She was to be married in October.

"In my mind, when I see her, I see the smile and the dancing eyes," said one of Jana's friends. "She touched so many lives and made everyone better she came in contact with. I cannot express the depths of my sorrow."

David Disman was the patient the crew on board was trying to save.

"Our dad was a shining star in all of our lives. Iin our hearts, his memory will forever be entwined with the three wonderful shining stars with whom he shared his last memories," said Dr. Tim Owens, reading a letter on behalf of Disman's family.
