An investigation is underway in Leon County after a man driving a stolen truck was shot by a DPS trooper.

Authorities say Lawrence Williams, 35, was driving in Centerville shortly after midnight Sunday when he tried to outrun officers.

Williams was eventually cornered in an apartment complex parking lot and tried to ram two patrol cars.

That's when the trooper opened fire, flattening three tires.

When Williams charged again and hit the D-P-S cruiser, that's when the trooper fired into the vehicle.

Williams is in stable condition at East Texas Medical Center in Crockett. It's unclear what charges he may eventually face.

As for the trooper, his name is being withheld, and he is on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
