The following is a press release from the Galveston Police Department concerning the loss of one of their own:
On Saturday June 14th, 2008 off-duty Galveston Police Sergeant Jeffrey Wyers was killed in a motor vehicle accident in Texas City, Texas.
Sergeant Wyers and his wife, Crystal Wyers, were traveling south on Highway 146 near the Dickinson Bayou Bridge when a motor vehicle pulling out from a convenience store failed to yield the right of way.
Sergeant Wyers was transported to John Sealy Emergency Room via Life Flight where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Crystal Wyers was transported by EMS to John Sealy Emergency Room where she is listed in serious condition.
Sergeant Wyers began his career with the Galveston Police Department on April 11th, 1988 and has honorably served the citizens of Galveston for more than 20 years. Sergeant Wyers was currently assigned to the Night Watch Patrol Division.
Sergeant Wyers was a member of the Galveston Police Department Dive Team and belonged to the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club.
Crystal Wyers is a Deputy Sheriff employed by the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.
Sergeant Wyers and Crystal had just gotten married on Friday in a sunset wedding under a large Oak tree at Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
Sergeant Wyers was planning to retire at the end of June so that he and Crystal could move to Kansas where they were in the process of purchasing a home.
Sergeant Wyers is survived by his three daughters Brandie, Megan, and Ashley and three brothers Tom Wyers, Jodie Wyers and Jamie Wyers. Tom Wyers is a Homicide Detective with the Houston Police Department.
