WASHINGTON COUNTY - Two Brenham men are behind bars after one man allegedly stabbed another near downtown Wednesday.
According to the Brenham Police Department, a fight broke out late that morning in the 400 block of South Market. Police say a man was fighting with a woman when another man stepped in. That's when they say a 45-year-old Michael Carter allegedly stabbed 29-year-old Jeremy Vaughn, who police consider homeless.
Carter was arrested at the scene and charged with bodily assault with a deadly weapon. Vaughn was transported to Scott and White Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was released Wednesday and then also arrested, charged with assault causing bodily injury.
Police say both men are violent, repeat offenders. Vaughn remains in jail on a $1,500 bond, while Carter's bond is set at $250,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
