Terry Bazile is learning the art of construction. He lost his house after Hurricane Katrina hit near his hometown, Port Sulfur Louisiana and soon evacuated to College Station.
"We went up to Mount Pleasant and came back down and found College Station and we've been here ever since," Bazile said.
Terry is part of a Construction Technology Program put on by Blinn College and Workforce Solutions, completely funded by a national emergency grant.
"I was at workforce solutions looking for a job," said Bazile. "Then they sent me a letter and a signed up for the classes."
He and other students like Jessie Galvan will complete 300 hours of classroom and hands on training.
"You get a satisfaction out of seeing something that is damaged and you get a satisfaction of seeing it completed," said Galvan.
So far students have put in drywall, cut lumber, and laid tile in a bathroom.
Once the project is completed the students will get a certification, that could land them a job as a construction apprentice.
As for Terry, he says, his newly learned skills could send him back to Louisiana.
"You have to be strong for your family. We've been doing good so far."
