Thursday was a very short day in court for the Chad Davis capital murder trial. Both sides rested their cases, but the defense didn't call any witnesses to the stand.

It was somewhat of an unusual move by the defense who rested its case Thursday morning without calling a single witness. You can look at this in two ways. Either there was no one attorney Dan Cogdell felt could help Davis' defense without exposing him under cross examination. Or, as Cogdell claims, the state failed to prove Davis' guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Prosecutors wrapped up their portion this morning by calling a DNA expert. He testified that blood samples collected at the victim's home matched two of the alleged hired enforcers, Brad Padrick and Boris Mogilevich, who's still at large.

The state maintains Tommy Andrade was murdered during a home invasion orchestrated by Chad Davis. Davis will be charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Friday morning. If convicted Davis could face up to life in prison.
