It took a jury a little less than two hours to reach a verdict in the Chad Davis capital murder trial Friday. He was found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Through out the 2 week trial, the stated contended that Davis was the mastermind behind a murder for hire plot which left local rap producer Tommy Andrade dead.
Defense attorney Dan Cogdell said Davis never intended for anyone to kill Andrade. But the jury didn't see it that way.
Andrade's mother gave a tearful victim's impact statement and told Davis the money wasn't worth her son's life. On the way out of the courtroom in handcuffs, Davis told Andrade's mother he was sorry.
District attorney Bill Turner credits the work of investigators for the conviction.
" I think we had over 600 exhibits which is far more that I've ever put into evidence but you know we had 3 crime scenes and we had 3 vehicles that were searched so there was a lot of hard work that a lot of police officers put into this," said Turner.
Cogdell declined to comment on the case and said we would not be representing Davis in an appeal. The trial for Trey Davis, Chad's brother, who authorities say was also involved in the murder, is set for next March.
