With drought conditions continuing, Brazos County has extended its burn ban once again. Tuesday morning, the Commissioner's Court voted to tack on an additional 90 days to the ban effective today.
With that decision, the fate of the student-built bonfire stack is still up in the air. The structure was lit despite the burn ban last month, but failed to burn to the ground. Organizers say the only secure way to bring the stack down would be to burn it again.
A number of citations were issued to organizers when they first tried to burn the bonfire.
Also on the burn ban front, Washington County extended its ban another 90 days this morning.
If conditions improve, commissioners can vote to end a burn ban before it expires.
For the year, the Brazos Valley is well under on average rain totals.
