Brazos County Commissioners Vote Against Burn Ban Exception

Updated: Tue 9:36 PM, Dec 20, 2005

Brazos County Commissioners met Tuesday night to discuss several items. One item on the agenda was a temporary exception to the burn ban. This would have allowed campfires no larger than five feet in diameter between December 21 and December 31.

Fire official Joe Ondrasek with Brazos County Precinct 4 said he and other fire officials opposed the idea because of present dry conditions.

"It's very dangerous situation right now," Ondrasek said. "It's very hazardous for property owners and firefighters. We support the burn ban."

Ondrasek also said many fires they've fought recently have been started by campfires. County commissioners voted all in favor to deny the exception. The burn ban was extended in early December for an additional 90 days.
