Salvation Army Sees Donation Spike

The Salvation Army is always visible during the month of December. And this year's bell ringing campaign paid off in a big way.

After ringing for 26 days this year, the local chapter received about $105,000 in donations. That's up $10,000 from last year. What makes this year's increase even more significant is that the bell ringing campaign was almost a week shorter than last year.

Gary Sturdivant, the local captain, feels area residents became much more aware of the Salvation Army after the work they did following the hurricanes.
