It was a busy New Year's Eve for both Brazos County Sheriff's deputies and Bryan police.

Sheriff's officials say they took about as many calls Saturday night as they do in an entire weekend, or about 100 in all.

Most of those were fireworks calls, but no citations were issued.

Authorities say a lack of evidence is to blame.

They say once deputies arrived, there was no way to determine if fireworks were actually in use.

County Judge Randy Sims banned all fireworks in the county on Friday.

Meanwhile, Bryan police made eight arrests on New Year's Eve, as the police department's Directed Deployment Team targeted drug dealers.

Police say they focused on neighborhoods where residents had complained of on-going drug activity.

The eight people arrested now face a combined six felony and seven misdemeanor charges, most of which are drug related.

Some of those arrested included Hurricane Katrina evacuees living in government-subsidized housing.
