A trooper was struck and killed by a pickup truck while he was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near Monahans.
The Department of Public Safety says 32-year-old Billy Jack Zachary had two vehicles pulled over around 5 p.m. Sunday. One was parked behind his patrol vehicle and another in front of it.
As Zachary walked from the vehicle parked behind his toward the other, he was struck by a pickup truck heading west on the highway.
Corporal Kathy Briggs says the driver of the pickup stopped and alerted authorities.
Zachary had worked for DPS for five years.
