Good news for Lake Conroe officials.

The dam will soon get a makeover.

A million-dollar federal grant has been awarded to help the San Jacinto River Authority pay for repairs caused by Hurricane Rita in September.

The storm caused waves to wash away layers of rocks that cover the dam's base.

The estimated cost for the repairs is one-point-seven million dollars.

The city of Houston and the authority will pay for the costs not covered by the grant.

Repairs are scheduled to begin Monday.

It should take a little more than three months to complete.
