Campaign for Governor in Full Swing

With the March primaries approaching, the gubernatorial candidates are getting into the thick of things.

Democratic candidate and former state supreme court justice Bob Gammage says his support of a woman's right to an abortion is being distorted by supporters of Chris Bell. Gammage wants to debate the former Houston congressman, and Bell's campaign is interested. The two sides have not spoken to each other about the idea.

Independent candidate Carole Keeton Strayhorn's spelling snafu won't cost her in her bid to unseat Governor Rick Perry. The state comptroller's attorney left out the "Y" on the form declaring her intention to run for governor. But state election officials say the misspelling does not disqualify her campaign. She and columnist Kinky Friedman are the Texas independents running for Governor.

And on the third day of the Texas tour he launched Tuesday, Governor Perry visited the border town of Fabens and called for increased border law enforcement. Perry faces Larry Kilgore, Rhett Smith and Star Locke in the March 7th Republican primary.
