BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The trial of former Iraqi leader Saddam
Hussein has been adjourned until Wednesday at the earliest.
Three witnesses testified Sunday after a chaotic beginning that
included one defendant being dragged out, the defense team walking
out and Saddam being escorted out.
A woman testified from behind a beige curtain to protect her
She says she was arrested after the 1982 assassination attempt
on Saddam, and received electric shocks to the head.
She describes them as being so severe she thought her eyes would "pop out." She says seven family members died in detention, including her husband.
If Wednesday is a public holiday, the judge says the trial will resume Thursday.
The start of the Islamic new year depends on the sighting of a new moon to start the lunar month.
