Texas A&M filed a temporary restraining order against the Super Bowl bound Seahawks over the term 12th Man. The order was filed in the 85th district court.
A&M copyrighted the 12th Man trademark and says, legally speaking, it can't be used without their permission. The Seahawks use the term to describe their boisterous fans and retired the number 12 jersey in 1984.
The university sent a cease-and-desist letter to the team, but didn't get a response. Now they are asking a judge to prohibit the franchise from using the term until a hearing.
A&M had similar issues with the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears, but both teams quickly responded to A&M's request.
