Texas A&M's first-ever student regent hails from the Brazos Valley and says he's ready to get to work.
Governor Rick Perry nominated student-regents for all state university systems Friday.
Among those is Texas A&M graduate student Tyson Voelkel.
Voelkel got his undergraduate degree from A&M is currently working on his master's at the George Bush School of Government and Public Service.
He says he's confident his appointment to the board will be a positive for both himself and the A&M System.
"It's definitely going to be a year where we are establishing systems and relationships that are professional for the Texas A&M University System," Voelkel said.
Voelkel, is originally from Brenham and also served a tour of duty in Iraq.
He'll serve for one year on the board.
Student regents have no voting power and are not counted toward a quorum.
