For drivers who passed by the wreckage in College Station, the car crumpled into the front of the Union Pacific train looked like it could only bring bad news.

But this wreck had a silver lining.

21-year-old A&M student Joni Stolle became trapped when the railroad barricade arms dropped as a train approached the intersection of Holleman and Wellborn.

Stolle attempted to get her car off the tracks, but when all her options had failed, Stolle did the only thing she could -- she got out.

The train, unable to stop in time, smashed into the car and carried it to the Southwest Parkway intersection.

Stolle nor the train conductor suffered any injuries, and railroad officials said if Stolle hadn't exited her car, she would had suffered major injuries, possibly life threatening.

The intersections at George Bush and Wellborn, as well as Holleman and Wellborn were closed down for more than two hours as the tracks were cleared.
