A Bryan motorcycle patrol officer suffered minor injuries Monday after a two-vehicle collision.

Officer David Blackburn was attempting to make a traffic stop at William Joel Bryan and Coulter when his motorcycle collided with a Chevy Impala attempting a right turn. Blackburn was thrown from his motorcycle, but the driver of the other car rushed to his aid.

Blackburn was treated and released at St. Joseph Hospital.

People we should all ignore the comments by those that pretend to be insensitive. They don't really think that way. They say these mean things for attention. If the truth be known they would be the first to scream where are the police when a rapist breaks in to their home. We all know the police are good people and try very hard to do a good job. Some choose to ignore that fact because they want attention and they want to incite others.

Ashley-Every time I think some of the people posting on here could not possibly be more ignorant you go and prove me wrong. I'm with you Jackie!

Hey jackie, how about you jump off that building first then we will know how bad it hurts when you hit the ground!

All of my best to Officer Blackburn. I agree that motorcycles aren't the safest mode of transportation for our officers as well. I understand why they have them, (easier to get thru a traffic jam) but not too much to keep the officer safe or cool. On those 100 degree days, wow, I just wanna stop one and give em a bottle of water and a hug. For all of you posting negatively, too bad they don't keep IP's for trace so they know who NOT to help next time you need an officer at your address.

"hmmm2"...Are you really so naive as to think that news agencies objectively report any fact and figure of an event? As you term it "if the other driver was at fault it would be in the news"....the media CREATES truth, they don't always report it. You have WAY too much faith in this nation's news services.

It is funny how people can say the things they do about cops, but when you need them to save your loved ones life or even your own they are right there. These Officers put their own life in danger for us everyday. They have families at home just like the rest of us. I could only imagine being an officers wife. Glad to hear the officer is okay! Thank you officer for what you do everyday!

Posted by: Officer's wife on Jul 3, 2008 at 08:24 AM
I'm glad to hear that Officer Blackburn is ok. These men put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect. He is a co-worker of my husband and understand him to be a good man with a family and a good cop. They get lied to, spit on, cursed at and worse on a daily basis to ensure the safety of those in our cities, so you won't hear any disrespect from me about the good officers like Blackburn.

For: Ashley, Annonymous at 03:38, Mike, Jonathan, and Clay: Words cannot even describe what kind of oxygen sucking organisms you are. I have no idea who this officer is, but in the course of his job he was hurt...for that alone he deserves our heartfelt well wishes. God Speed for a healthy recovery.

Ashley, you should be ASHAMED! Your comments were rude, thoughtless, hurtfull! I have Law enforcement in my family , and believe me they are NOT DUMAZ cops! Sounds to me like you are the one that is a DUMAZ!!

Most of our working class citizens also have dangerous jobs. Look at the top 10 most dangerous jobs. Thank the guys in construction, drivers, electricians, pilots, fisherman, oil field, loggers, miners, and farmers. They need a little thank you too. Our jobs are more dangerous. I hope i can crawl down from my crane every day and see my family after a long day of building your city!!

Doug is right. Policing is dangerous enough without the added risk of riding a motorcycle. The city needs to get rid of the motorcycles and put these officers in a car. They are gambling with officer safety and I don't like it one bit.

Posted by: Doug Location: Bryan on Jul 2, 2008 at 07:03 PM
Dave, thank you for educating me as to the proper terminology for the motorcycle this officer was riding. I will no longer refer to it as a crotch rocket. I readily admit that I know very little about motorcycles. However, I do know that many fatal accidents on motorcycles would be survivable if the rider was in a car. I believe it is foolish for the city to risk the lives of these fine officers by placing them on a motorcycle. Every officer should be issued a nice, big, comfy, 4 door sedan in my opinion. These motorcycles are just too dangerous. I want to see these officers go home to their families when they get off. Policing is dangerous enough without taking the additional risk of riding a motorcycle. Thank God this police officer was not killed.

Posted by: Dave Location: CS on Jul 2, 2008 at 10:55 AM
Doug, a "crotch rocket" as you term it, is a sportbike...what officer blackburn rides is a "cruiser"...just FYI

I am glad Officer Blackburn was able to walk away. Officer Blackburn is a very nice man and does his job great. I am thankful for our officers and what they do for our city. Keep up the good work and be careful

Posted by: hmmm2 Location: bcs on Jul 2, 2008 at 06:43 AM
Dont risk your life and others just to give a ticket!! Glad the officer is ok. What if the car was not a big old impala, what if it was a convertable, or a tiny honda filled with kids!! I also like how the article does not tell who's fault it was. That usually means it was the cops fault. If it was the other drivers fault, it would say it in the headlines.

Ashley, are you bitter for being arrested for prostitution?

Posted by: Ricky Location: Bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Officer Blackburn recover well. It takes a very special person to want, daily to wear the badge that means you care. I wish you well and blessings upon all our officers that care enough to care.

Posted by: Jackie Davis Location: Bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 09:18 PM
I hope David has a speedy recovery and all is well with him and his family. Wow, you people really don't comprehend what Bryan PD does for you guys. I work along side these men and women and they are fine individuals and patient. I got to tell you, I couldn't put up with that much B.S. in a day. They listen to people's problems (that they put themselves in) and expect BPD to fix it. You don't hear them say to you, "You're a F-UP and you need to find the tallest building and leap off of it, because trust me, that's the only productive thing you've done with your life". This is a horrible thing to have happen, whether it was a police officer or some random person. Grow up folks, I guarantee you, David doesn't wear his feelings on his sleeves and he will continue to protect and serve even with the crappy things you guys have said about him.

Posted by: Jackie Davis Location: Bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 08:54 PM
I hope David has a speedy recovery and all is well with him, he is a great guy. Wow, people don't realize how much Bryan PD does for them. I work along side these men and women everyday, and I got to tell you, I couldn't put up with half of the B.S. they do each day. Dealing with trash day in and day out hearing about their problems, that these people PUT THEMSELVES IN, and expect the police to fix it all. Wow, is all I can say. When you guys need us, you don't see us telling you that you're a f-up and you should find the tallest building in the city,(I hear University Tower is pretty tall) and leap off of it with all of your might. Because that would be the only productive thing you've ever done with your life. Grow up guys, this was a horrible thing that could've happened to anyone not just a police officer.

Posted by: Mark Location: Bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 07:19 PM
Glad you came out so well Dave! Could have been a lot worse, but you already know that. And for those who don't know him, Dave is one of the nicest folk you can meet, with or without a badge. If there is any doubt with regard to his ability on a motorcycle, you really need to look into what sort of skill is required to get on a bike with the PD. Not just any officer can get on and ride.

Posted by: Doug Location: Bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 07:17 PM
I agree with "Pro Law Enforcement". It is foolish to have an officer risk his life on a crotch rocket to issue a citation for a class "C" Misdemeanor. Put them in cars. Yes, police officers get killed in car wrecks, however the officer is much more likely to survive an accident if he is on 4 wheels instead of 2. Bryan has already had an officer killed on a bike. How many officers are going to have to die before the city wakes up and gets rid of the crotch rockets? One dead police officer is too many. We are fortunate that officer Blackburn was not killed.

Posted by: clay Location: bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 06:41 PM
he should be cited for going the wrong way down a oneway street!i can see breaking a traffic law to catch a dangerous felon in the act of a deadly crime but breaking the law to enforce the law make two wrongs and should'nt be tolerated!when the police break the law there is no law!!they are sworn to uphold the law .that does'nt make them above the law!

Posted by: michele Location: bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:03 PM
Ashley, how stupid can you be. He was just doing his job. You should hope that one day you don't need to call on the police for help. You can fix ugly but you cant fix stupid. Hope all is well with the officer.

Posted by: Anon Location: CS on Jul 1, 2008 at 03:07 PM
Ashley, hopefully your little girl wont grow up to be as bitter as you are.

It's ok folks, Ashley's mom dropped her on her head as a baby. Just ignore her.

He stopped me in Tiffany Park speeding. He is a professional Police officer. All Police depts. have nut jobs. He is not one of them.

For Terra, If my words hurt him oh well, he shouldnt wear his feelings on his sleaves, you dont see me crying any. I DONT CARE! :)

Posted by: Terra on Jul 1, 2008 at 10:36 AM
Officer Blackburn is not one of those "cocky cops." I have worked with him and he is a caring individual who went into the police force in order to make this place safer for the rest of us. To Ashley and those others of you who are so negative...what if this was your son, father, or brother who was injured? Would you want your negative comments posted about your loved one? You should really think about the things you say and the hurt that your words can cause! Speedy Recovery, David! God Bless!

Posted by: dave Location: dwebb@lib-gw.tamu.edu on Jul 1, 2008 at 10:34 AM
And some people really shouldn't post comments! You should hold your tongue (or your hands in this case) until you know EXACTLY what happened.

Posted by: clay Location: bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 08:35 AM
some people really should'nt ride motorcycles!

Posted by: Brooke Location: CS on Jul 1, 2008 at 08:06 AM
Awe, Officer Blackburn ticketed me a while back and was a very nice gentleman. I'm glad to see he is doing well. I don't think we could take another Mark Hyatt accident.

An Impala in Bryan? You're kidding me... Glad everyone is ok. :)

Posted by: Pro Law Enforcement Location: Bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:35 AM
The city of Bryan is trying to save a few bucks on fuel at the expense of officer safety. Get rid of the bikes! It is not worth it. These things are very dangerous.

Posted by: jonathan Location: bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:22 AM
if it was the cops fault, will he gat cited???? of couse not!!!!

Posted by: mike Location: bryan on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:21 AM
bet it was the cop's fault too!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 1, 2008 at 03:38 AM
I'm betting he was one of those cocky cops that takes up half of the road and expects people to almost wreck and get out of his way. Typical stupid cop!

Posted by: Dave Location: CS on Jun 30, 2008 at 09:52 PM
I hope you have a speedy recovery, Officer Blackburn. Our prayers are with you!

Posted by: Ashley Nemec Location: Bryan on Jun 30, 2008 at 09:29 PM
HAHA the person he was going to pull over was very very lucky. DUMAZ COP!

I saw a lot of Police in this area today. I sure would like to see them on a different day also. We have had some break ins and Hookers working the area. God bless you Officer for keeping us safe in dangerous times in Bryan.
