Two cases of Salmonella Saintpaul have been confirmed in Brazos County.

The Brazos County Health Department says its seeing an increase in confirmed cases of Salmonella, and that several are pending at the state lab to see if they are Saintpaul.

Due to HIPAA laws, little information concerning the cases in question has been released, but the state notes no deaths have been reported in Texas.

According to the Center for Disease Control, 922 people nationwide have been infected with Salmonella Saintpaul between April and July 2. Texas has the highest number of cases, with 356 confirmed.

During this same time period in 2007, only three cases of Salmonella Saintpaul were confirmed in the entire country.

Originally thought to be linked to tomatoes, the CDC says many clusters of illnesses have been identified in Texas and other states among people who ate at restaurants. The clusters led the CDC to broaden the scope of investigation to foods commonly consumed with tomatoes.
