He was supposed to be a role model kids could trust. Now he's been convicted for violating that trust.

College Station resident Jerry Nucker, 34, was the owner of the Academy of Martial Arts where he taught karate. But three years ago, his relationship with a 16-year old student crossed the line.

Nucker has been convicted of two counts of sexual assault of a child. But the jury that found him guilty Wednesday, couldn't agree on his punishment Thursday.

A mistrial was declared for the punishment phase only. Another jury will be seated to decide Nucker's sentence.

According to the probable cause statement, the girl had been a student of Nucker's for two years. She told investigators their first sexual contact came in November, 2005 at the karate studio.

She said over the next few months, the two had sex at the studio, Nucker's home and his vehicle. She also told authorities, the sex was consensual. However, under Texas law, minors cannot give consent.

To Home: Do you REALLY feel people in other states congratulate 31 yr. olds who manipulate and have sexual activities with 16 year olds?...that thinking appears VERY twisted. The pont is mute- it is illegal in Texas and Nucker KNEW that. Thank goodness FOR Texas and many other states that recognize the fact that it is WRONG. Hopefully, other states will follow suit and protect more children from predators. Congratulating THAT? Wow - How sad.

This was NOT an isolated event. He had done something very similar like this before and appeared already to be scoping out his next victim. He's a pdophile.

Posted by: me Location: home on Jul 23, 2008 at 11:37 PM
FYI...Jerry is 34 now. He was 31 then. Not that it makes it ok. You people need to take off your judgmental hats. A mistake was made but this is an isolated event. Lets put this in perspective. If this occurred in any of the states below this would not be any big deal because their age of consent is 16. How is it fair to drop the hammer on someone in Texas yet congratulate them in South Carolina? Hows that self righteousness working out for you? Does it make you feel better? I sure hope so. .......Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, D.C., Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia & Wyoming.

I happen to know the girl and she is a very shy, innocent sweet girl. She led a very sheltered life and was manipulated by this man.

To all of those who claim to know "the truth": The truth is that the only ones who know what REALLY happened are Jerry, "the girl", and God. Both sides involved will meet their Maker one day, and they will have to pay the consequences.

Posted by: unknow Location: cs on Jul 8, 2008 at 03:14 PM
Jerry place his family thought a lot. Being 34 and having a wife and family he knew better and should have act according to his knowledge and not through his pants. Punishment should be part of the crime. Both the girl and him are at fault but he was the adult and knew better "no ands, ifs or buts" A lot of girls now days think it is a game and we as adults need to look into this and see what needs to be change. We are all forgetting the victims and it is not the girl or Jerry it is his wife, children and family. If a man needs to cheat there are plenty of women over 18 that could do better service and they are free.

To 6:49 - you definitely do NOT know the facts....how dare you to mispeak as such. The girl and her loved one have already gone through enough.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 8, 2008 at 02:38 PM
How do you know the girl said no such things??? Were you listening to her every word??? I think not.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 8, 2008 at 01:11 PM
I just so happen to know the facts, and the girl said no such thing. Also, the mother did not know of the events until way after they had taken place. You should try to know all the facts before you go around slandering someone.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 8, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Seems as though it is a two way street. It is a crime never the less and he should be punished. However, the question comes to mind at what age is appropriate for consent. Some say 18 or 21 but a lot of underage girls are having sex with boys a year or two older than them and even older. Not saying she is a bad person but teenage girls are having sex, girls younger than 16 are giving birth. Maybe the parents in this case should have kept a tighter hold on her. Sounds like to me the mother got upset because the daughter was having sex so charges were filed. That does not mean she will not turn around and do the same thing.

Posted by: clay Location: bryan on Jul 8, 2008 at 07:55 AM
he should'nt be executed!he should be punished!he should have a second chance!he should not have a third chance!to err is human,to forgive is devine!!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 7, 2008 at 06:49 PM
If you know the real facts, you know the girl announced to others that she was trying to get him in bed. Also, the mother KNEW about her relationship with him and did NOTHING until he told her he wasn't going to have anything to do with her anymore. If you say you cannot judge this girl as being an inappropriate person, you cannot judge her and claim that she is sweet and innocent. It's a two way street, my friends.

To Mrs A at 10:15, Sexual assault IS the legal word for rape. Yes, this man is a RAPIST...and a RAPIST of a minor. Parents, don't just drop your children off and expect them to be babysat no matter how old you think they are. Don't throw your children to the wind because it is convenient for you. You can't even drop your sons off for altar boy training in some cities. You gave birth to your children raise and to teach them to protect themselves. To Anonymous at 12:37, yes this does make this criminal a bad person. This is a crime. He did not just make a mistake like you said. What does a person have to do for you to realize the difference in right and wrong? He did not fail a pop-test, he raped a teenager for his own enjoyment.

Posted by: oneotherthing Location: sickofitall on Jul 7, 2008 at 05:48 PM
No one is perfect. People do deserve second chances. I wouldn't condemn the man to death but when you are in your 30's doing this type of thing behaving in this manner, you know better. You know better. You knew better. You knew better. It's not like the guy couldn't feed his family and robbed a store for a grapefruit. This guy could have anyone he wanted. From what I understand he in fact already HAD someone. W T F grrrrr >(

PERVS are everywhere you go and showing up here! Those who defend this mans actions and scrutinize a young teen this way-I wish so badly you had a clue. I'm 36 now and remember being 16. My mother wouldn't let me be alone with a man. Good for her! Sure I thought I wanted to have sex though I never did then, but now being an adult there is no way I was ready. The saying goes "If it feels good, do it". But these are CHILDREN. The age is 18 for a reason. Maybe it should even be 21. Those who argue that it should be lower than 18, haha well we all know what kinda person you are and where your priorities lie or lack thereof more than likely. Listen up, MEN! THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOUR D----S! That is EXACTLY what it boils down to.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 7, 2008 at 05:19 PM
I amazed how some people can judge this girl without knowing about her personally the case, what she went through, and the after math. Yes, some teenagers today DO dress rather trashy. But you do not know this girl, so you really can't make that assumtion, can you? In fact, you know nothing of her home life, nor do you know her personality. The poor girl has been through enough, leave her alone already. Sheesh.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Bryan on Jul 7, 2008 at 03:08 PM
This was not just an accidental mistake on his part - it was very well groomed and calculated on his part....so that does make him a bad person and not safe to have around young girls.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: CS on Jul 7, 2008 at 12:37 PM
How can you be so judgemental when you know nothing? Did he commit a crime? Yes. Does that make him a bad person? No. Obviously, if parents still take their kids to this business, he is not a threat to society. It was a mistake. Can anyone truly say they are guilty only of being perfect? If you answered yes, you need to re-evaluate yourself.

To those who think it's okay for a 30 year old to be having sex with a 16 year old I only hope that none of you live in my neighborhood because you sound like you would be the type to pray on young girls yourself and for poor baby he was the instructor and owner which means he knew from the paper work which had to be filled out by her parents that she was only sixteen. But I will agree that young girls do dress trashy these days and that lays at fault with the parents however the Karate uniforms are far from being sexy. My daughter who is now 11 attended classes at this studio and as soon we found out we left there, he had his day in court and was convicted so there had to have been enough evidence to convict him. And to check it don't assume that all 16 year olds are sl--- some of us do know what our daughters are doing at all times and have raised very respectable young women all though that is probably heartbreaking for you to hear

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 7, 2008 at 11:35 AM
To once a child, the facts DO matter. Innocent until proven guilty. Don't be so biased

Posted by: TKD on Jul 6, 2008 at 07:29 PM
Judgement when done in ignorance is mute. Noone should speak unless the absolute facts are known. It's strictly a waste of time of people's emotions and words. Noone knows the history of what really happened nor the evidence except those involved. It was illegal, according to the law, for a reason. I can't however, imagine anyone looking too sexy in a karate outfit- the same one worn by 5 yr. olds.

Posted by: poor baby Location: b/cs area on Jul 6, 2008 at 12:40 PM
boo hoo for the girl....yea right... look at the way young girls dress now days... parents need to have control of thier kids...alot of 16 yrs olds easily look 18 or older, they want to play with fire they will get burned.....

Posted by: You are not real on Jul 5, 2008 at 05:01 PM
TO DJ, Perhaps if your daughter had not opened the window for that 16 year old he would not have entered your house. That is not a police mater. It is a parent matter. It is foolish to lock up a 16 year old boy for having consensual intercourse with a 16 or even a 15 year old girl. I am wondering if you really think like that or if you're just making this up for attention.

Posted by: anon Location: Texas on Jul 5, 2008 at 04:37 PM
toobadsosad and the majority. It is so encouraging to hear that people feel as ya'll do. I agree totally.

Posted by: anonymous Location: CS on Jul 5, 2008 at 01:44 PM
The man is a very sick person that needs to be kept from other young girls to prevent this from happening ever again. The jury had the evidence. The girl was innocent and almost lost her life over this- Nucker did not care about that - only himself. Thank the judicial system.

Posted by: this is ridiculous Location: bryan on Jul 5, 2008 at 10:34 AM
this is crazy. 16 year old girls know what they are doing. end of story if they want to have sex with an older man that is their decision, this man should be punished for breaking the law but if it is consensual then he should only get probation. I'm sure the only reason he is having a trial is because of her parents. people need to grow up and realize that this is not 1970 when they grew up their baby girl is not innocent. you see 14 year olds having kids now. it is ridiculous.

Posted by: clay Location: bryan on Jul 5, 2008 at 10:06 AM
even though at 16 they have the body of a woman, they are babies in the brain and should not be taken advantage of by adults!this guy had a serious laps in judgement.....having said that, its not the boys you have to worry about anymore!!young girls today truly have gone WILD!!!she said herself it was conscensual,he should have known better as the adult!!!!

Posted by: once a child Location: Bryan on Jul 5, 2008 at 07:28 AM
To DJ, I would catch that 16 year old boy in a dark alley somewhere and let him have it. He had no right to sneak into your house and have sex with your daughter. To "anonymous" at 3:35: The "facts" in this case really don't matter. He was a grown man and she was 16. He knew better than to do what he did.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 5, 2008 at 12:22 AM
who cares what it was, fatal attraction or what, an adult man in his 30's slept with a minor. If it was my daughter I would have castrated him already.

Posted by: Ms A Location: Bryan on Jul 4, 2008 at 10:15 PM
To WOW: Get your facts straight. This man is NOT A RAPIST. He was charged with sexual assault of a minor. Even though it was consensual, under TEXAS law it is considered sexual assault because she is a minor.

Posted by: Truth be told ... Location: Denton, TX on Jul 4, 2008 at 08:23 PM
Glad that this guy might find justice, he'll probably get a slap on the wrist ... sick. Stephen Bruce Unger was a Karate student on the fast track to becoming an instructor, too, in Denton, TX - shortly after his flight from Bryan on similar charges about a year back (although it was younger boys he was accused of 'molesting'). The Bryan PD seems to not care about his whereabouts, as well. This info is on the internet, check out the site for the Karate places in Denton.

Posted by: disgusted Location: cs on Jul 4, 2008 at 08:18 PM
i don't care if the teenage girl was "innocent" or not, it still by no means gives a 34 year old the right to have sex at his karate studio, his vehicle, or his home.....where he has a wife and three children.....it makes me ill. he should be punished to the full extent.

Posted by: check it Location: grimes co on Jul 4, 2008 at 04:30 PM
yall being are naive to believe that your teenage daughter is a virgin. i know you want to believe it, but these teenage girls are not as innocent as you think.

Posted by: anonymous Location: Bryan on Jul 4, 2008 at 03:35 PM
It's interesting how quick you are to judge such things when you no nothing of the facts of the case.

34 years old AND a professional where it happened at the work place with a client who is underage - this is definitely in need of punishment. Anyone at that age should know better and the use of his authoritative figure is direct abuse of his power by abusing the trust. He should definitely be a registered sex offender in the future after his punishment and stripped of any ability to hold this type of position ever again and never allowed around any youths. How unfortunate for the young girl who at her age of maturation probably thought she was loved or felt love from this person. I hope she will be okay. It is not okay for a man old enough to be your father to be sexual with you in any way.

Posted by: WOW Location: OH LORD on Jul 4, 2008 at 09:24 AM
THIS ONLY SHOWS US OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT SAFE WITH THE ADULTS WE TRUST TO LEAVE IN CHARGE.THIS GROWN MAN SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL WITH THE REST OF THE RAPIST,THE REST OF THE INMATES SHOULD KNOW THAT HE LIKES TO RAPE YOUNG INNOCENT CHILDREN. THE 16 YEAR OLD IS NOT OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE CHOICES LIKE THAT UNDER THE LAW.IF HE HAS A WIFE SHE SHOULD LEAVE HIM,HIS CHILDREN SHOULD DISOWN HIM IF HE HAS ANY.

Posted by: DJ Location: Bryan on Jul 4, 2008 at 08:09 AM
A 16 year old boy came in my house through a window and had sex with my 16 year old daughter. When I called the police they said there was nothing they could do evan though she was a minor because there was not at least 3 years difference in age. So this law is crap!!!
