Those rallying behind a future coal plant in Mexia have decided to pool their supporters and vote for a location in Leon County instead.
The Heart of Texas Council of Governments now feels Leon County would be a better choice than Limestone.
FutureGen is a plant which would turn coal into hydrogen-rich gas without releasing pollutants into the atmosphere.
Each state will select one site, then a vote will be made on the 50 candidates.
A Texas site could be chosen by early March.
