Rain-slicked roads made for treacherous driving Saturday. Nowhere was that more evident than on Highway 6.
A two-vehicle accident five miles south of Hearne left one person dead and four injured.
Just before noon, 18-year-old Cateche Dike of Longview was headed south on Highway 6. Authorities say she lost control of her Volkswagon Beetle on a curve due to excessive speed.
Dike's car slid into oncoming traffic, where a Ford Excursion travelling north tried to swerve and miss the Beetle, but ended up colliding with it.
There was a family of four in the Excursion, all of whom were taken to St. Joseph with what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was backed up for at least three miles in either direction while the highway was cleared.
Dike was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a senior at Longview High School.
