A Tuesday afternoon thunderstorm was welcomed by most, but it came with consequences.
Around 4:15 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was struck by lightning at Traditions Golf Course in southwest Bryan.
Emergency officials from Bryan say the teen was about to take a golf lesson, when lightning hit his graphite club. When EMS arrived, he was unconscious.
The young man was taken St. Joseph Regional Health Cetner in Bryan, where firefighters say at last report he was in stable condition.

It would be nice if they had the same kind of lightening detection system in place that Texas A&M has, if lightening is anywhere close, there is a alert system in place that will alarm people on both sides of the campus, and @ the golf course, and the rec center.

I have always been concerned over the lack of attention the golf courses seem to have during storms. My son and husband play on a regular basis in this area. I feel that every golf course(and baseball field as well) should have a lightning detector to sound and remove everyone from the course at that time. As parents, managers of golf courses, tournament directors and coaches, it is our jobs to help keep kids safe during situations. I hope that in the future golf officials would be more proactive during or before storms and help get people off the course.

I live by a golf course here in bryan and it just urkes me to see how stupid golfers are about playing out in the weather when it's raining or having bad weather in the sourrounding area... They should be smarter than that..
