Brazos Valley Burn Bans: The following counties are under a Burn Ban: Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Washington
There were more than a few surprises in Tuesday's election. One group of races that raised eyebrows was for Justice of the Peace where all three incumbent Republicans were defeated by newcomers.
More than 30 years of experience was ousted in Brazos County with the races for Justice of the Peace.
Tommy Munoz will take over Ray Truelove's spot for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 place 2. Truelove has held the position for 23 years. Munoz currently serves as court administrator for County Court at Law #2.
" I feel very humbled and honored that the voters for precinct 2 have come out and supported me. It hasn't hit me yet," said Munoz.
Vera Lara-Hooge will replace Margaret Meece as the republican candidate for Precinct 2 place 1. Meece has held the position for nearly 4 years. Lara- Hooge is currently the administrative assistant for the 85th district court and will face democrat Albert Navarro in November.
" I'm very excited. I still can't believe I won, but I'm really excited and ready and willing to serve the public," said Lara-Hooge.
Construction company owner, Mike McCleary will replace Charles Ellis for Precinct 1. Ellis has held the office for six years.
" I'm kind of a people oriented person. I get along with people well. I'm willing to listen to what people have got to say and I feel I've got good common sense and a pretty good judge of character," said McCleary.
The losing incumbents say they're disappointed and believe things could have turned out differently if it weren't for low voter turnout.
The new judges will be sworn in January 1.
