Thursday evening, College Station's city council approved the purchase of 27 acres of land for a second city cemetery.
The property is just off of FM 2818 and University Drive, just across from Easterwood Airport, and is being bought at a price of $700,000 from Gerald and Joyce Kinman.
The city will now look to buy some more property in the area owned by Texas A&M. The goal is to have between 50 and 60 acres of land for city plots, as well as a proposed Aggie Field of Honor.
The plots in that portion of the cemetery would cost about twice as much as the regular plots ($1,650, as compared to $850), and would be for Aggie alumni and contributors.
