The city of Dallas may be higher on the map than Houston -- but it's also higher on the salary scale.
A recent Texas Workforce Commission wage survey says that Houstonians earn an average of $18.85 an hour -- or $39,203 each year. But Dallasites earn $19.12 hourly -- which translates to $39,764 a year.
Both cities still pay their workers the highest wages in Texas. Experts say that's because of the high-paying industries located in each metropolis -- the energy industry in Houston and the focus on financial services in Dallas.
