Quick reaction by the Bryan Fire Department kept an apartment fire from getting out of hand Monday afternoon.
Smoke was seen pouring out of a single unit of the Bryan Arms apartments shortly before 2pm. A call was placed to 911, and within moments, Bryan firefighters were there.
"The first unit arrived on the scene within three minutes and they found heavy smoke and fire coming out of the downstairs apartment," Bryan Fire Chief Mike Donoho said. "They attacked the fire while the other crews were arriving on the scene and setting up the water supply. And our safety teams and they made an excellent stop on the fire. They had the fire controlled within 21 minutes."
Only one apartment suffered major damage. About six units had some smoke damage. The Red Cross is working with 12 families that were displaced.
The cause is still under investigation.
