A cold front will approach the Brazos Valley later today. Isolated areas of rain and thunderstorms could develop along and ahead of that front between mid-afternoon and early evening. Good news: rain & storm activity will be quick moving (1 hour or less). Bad news: a few severe thunderstorms are possible with large hail and strong, damaging winds being the main concern. A brief, isolated tornado threat cannot be ruled out, as well.
A two vehicle accident around six o'clock Tuesday morning left parts of Highway 6 closed for several hours.
College Station police say a Ford Escort was stopped in the outside, northbound lane of Highway 6 on the bridge over Harvey Road. A pickup truck struck the car, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. The pickup flipped and came to a rest on the north side of the bridge.
Officials say both drivers were transported to the College Station Medical Center. The Escort's driver, 62-year-old Gonzalo Garcia, Junior of College Station, received serious injuries and was taken into surgery. The driver of the pickup, 42-year-old Warren Bledsoe of College Station, was treated and released.
The accident remains under investigation.
