A Milam County man is improving after he was severely injured this weekend while trying to break up a fight.
Police say Jerry Sowders, 48, of Gause was knocked out early Sunday morning outside Rockies Nightclub at Post Oak Mall. Sowders fell and hit the back of his head on concrete.
As of Tuesday afternoon, he is listed in stable condition at the College Station Medical Center.
Friends are hosting a benefit in his honor. It will be held August 2 and 3 in Hearne. An exact location has not been determined, but we're told it should be selected by Wednesday.
The benefit will include a barbecue lunch, horseshoe tournament, and auction. Organizers are asking for donated items for the auction. A golf scramble will also be held on Sunday.
Friends say the benefit will cover medical bills and everyday expenses.
"He does not have to worry about this or that," Jerry's friend Debbie Jordan said. "He'll need food when he comes home, things of that nature. His day to day living. That's what this benefit is for. If he needs medications because whatever it's going to be. That's what we want to help him with."
Jordan says Sowders sustained major head injuries. He is improving daily, but friends say it is not known whether there will be any long term effects.
For more information on the benefit you can contact Debbie Jordan at 979-422-3169 or by email at teamsexy77859@yahoo.com.
An account has also been set up for Sowders at First Star Bank in Hearne. To donate, call 279-3909.

More informatin:I want to clarify this for anyone who is offened by our Organizations name or email. My name is Michelle aka Big Sexy, that name was given to me by my brother, and in turn his name is Little Sexy. We decided to start a group that would help organize and support local benefits, bbq cook offs, and anything else we decided to support as a group. We have a set of guidelines that we have set in place with a zero tolerance. We are all hard working people that just want to do something more to help our community than just talk about what could have been done to make something better. I sincerely apologize if our group name offends anyone or if our email address offends anyone. We have nothing but the utmost intentions to make this the a family benefit for everyone to come out and support Jerry and have some fun. I hope anyone and everyone who wants to help Jerry can see past a name, come out and have some bbq throw some horseshoes, and help Jerry. Respectfully
hope you feel better scary jerry....i'm sorry that happened to you and for some reason that happened and we don't know but we would have to have a good reason.....hope you get better....
