A man arrested Monday for robbing a College Station convenience store has been in trouble with the law multiple times in the past two years.

News Three did a little digging and it turns out Vance Pullen, 20, was arrested nine times for about 20 charges since January 2007.

Police say Pullen, who is also a registered sex offender, was arrested Monday for his latest crime. He's been charged with robbing the Stop N' Go convenience store on Holleman Sunday night. Police believe Pullen was one of three men who held up the store.

In the past, Pullen has been arrested for charges ranging from evading arrest, credit card abuse, burglary, harassment, and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Pullen is currently being held on an $84,000 bond for his role in the recent robbery. Police have made no other arrests in that case.

Referring to the first post by "M"..do you mean the DA's Office who claimed the County Attorney's Office was soft on crime during the election??

John, Progressive is the idea. I believe many people are to busy to dig deeper unless a situation arises which hits one personally. Progressive is looking at "the larger picture"....the cause and effect, not only to the individual, but to society as a whole. It would actually require researching failed programs an example would be TYC - San Saba, and the ill effects it poses to socity as a whole. Been there, I do not feel sorry for this individual, nor do I condone excuses in causing harm to others. I have compassion and knowledge of his history. You are correct in your statement, they are usually victims first...dig deeper.

>>>>you people have no clue whats wrong with that cat<<<< Credit card abuse, burglary, and harrassment tell me that what's wrong with that cat is that he has been raised to believe that what's his is his and what's mine is his...and that he's ENTITLED to a free ride for life, because liberals keep telling his mentors that to do anything else might "crush his self esteem..."

you shouldnt sit here and act like you know vance or his family b/c unless you do know them, and if you did know them i promise you wouldnt be saying some of the stuff that ive read today and yesterday. he is very troubled and i blame the system for this you teach someone to be a criminal and then they are one and then you put them in the system and make it to were they cant get a job for being a criminal and then what are they going to do? go and be a flippin criminal. you think that the guards in the jails are any better than the inmates? if you do then ur ignorant and have no idea. the tyc that vance did go to had charges agianst them for the female guards sleeping with the inmates! so really whos to blame?

What the heck? Bi-Polar doesn't give someone the right to commit a crime. We each have to be accountable for our actions whether we are bi-polar or not. I am bi-polar and hold down a challenging, reputable job and do not commit crimes. Those that use this disease as a handicap are ignorant. Anyone feeling sorry for this fool needs to wake up. A criminal is a criminal and he is also a sex offender? There is NO rehabilitation for that! He needs to be locked up give him three squares a day and check on him in about 10 years. He will probably get out the same as he went in. Personally I think we need to wake up and quit using mental illness as an excuse! He knows where MHMR is, they provide all of the burnouts and whoever can't pay with treatment and medicine so there is no excuse.

To Dig Deeper: Children age 11 are not sent to TYC unless they have committed a heinous crime (in Vance's case probably the sexual assault (read "rape"?) of a 3 yr old) or repeatedly committed felonies. The "juveniles" of TYC are there for arson, murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, aggr. robbery, rape, aggr. assault, etc. They have generally been totally socialized to irresponsible & criminal behavior by their families, either directly &/or by lack of care/supervision. The kids are usually victims 1st, but become perpetrators. TYC works to rehabilitate, which amounts to changing beliefs and values that the child has already learned. [Go ahead, find a teenage drug-using gang member, or a sexual predator, or a violent robber, not yet locked up, try to change him/her and see how much success you have.] In many cases, the children do make positive changes while incarcerated. Then they're paroled into the environment that corrupted them in the 1st place.

Why dont we let him out AGAIN!!! Wake up people!

Posted by: worried on Jul 16, 2008 at 08:58 AM
maybe this guy has a mental issue bipolar disease perhaps? maybe he needs some evaluating done istead of being thrown in jail over and over! He does deserve punishment but lets get this guy rehabilitated first and foremost!

Posted by: dig deeper Location: USA on Jul 15, 2008 at 07:28 PM
TYC since age 11, paroled at age 18. "Rehabilitated" in a system which has failed the children and parents of those who wanted to make a difference, but had no control. The keys were thrown away when this individual was a child, raised with other children with whom had suffered the fate and consequense of poor choice. Institutionalized, children learn what they live. When will we as a society, recognize the needs of others and come up with solutions to solve the end result of our failing instead of casting judgement? I wonder...what would you do? This individual was branded by the like-mind of those who have qualified themselves as judges when he was released and a system which failed to follow through with the conditions of their own making...

Posted by: LIVID on Jul 15, 2008 at 05:11 PM
Why was he let out in the first place??? Sex Offender----doesn't that mean anything? Our system is so backwards. Oh, he will just probably get a slap on the wrist and released again....so very very sad!!

Posted by: concerned Location: cs on Jul 15, 2008 at 04:41 PM
Sounds like this character needs to be locked up, and the keys thrown away permanently.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 15, 2008 at 04:07 PM
It is just another criminal that the system has let out to find more victims.

The DA needs to follow up on the arrests and get this person off of the street.
