Firefighters in Robertson County spent the better part of Saturday afternoon trying to put out a grass fire eight miles North of Calvert, near highway 6.

"When I first got here, I came across the fence right here and I just saw this burning right here," said Jerry Hadley, Bremond Fire Captain.

The Bremond Fire Department was first on scene.

"We started fighting this and we got it all knocked down. Then all at once this flared up here, back up to here again, so we had to have more people come in," said Hadley.

For a while, firefighters thought the fire was contained. Then it jumped the tracks.

"That's when all of it flared back up on us and that's when I hollered for more help," said Hadley.

In all, seven units from Bremond, Calvert, Hearne and Reagan were on scene, wetting down everything in sight.

Saturday, instead of freight, it was firefighters on the tracks, because the fire chief stopped the trains.

"Cause we had hoses come across the railroad tracks," said Hadley.

Firefighters battled the heat, in the heat, and kept an eye on small flames before they turn into bigger problems.

Crews were able to leave around 6:15pm.

Deputies from the Robertson County Sheriff's Department are investigating to see if a burn ban violation started the fire.

A burn ban violation could carry up to a $500 fine.

Shiro's a lot closer to brazos than Robertson co. maybe thy did'nt know about the fire, they just need to get off the duffs and look for news and not wait for it to come to them or talk about awards dinners, dances and there a&m crap.

Everybody knows that a burn ban doesn't matter in Robertson County. Yezak and his country bumpkin deputies won't get off their butts at the SO to write any tickets for a burn ban. They don't want to dirty up those new cars and SUV's they just bought with all that gas well money!!!

Oh good grief...the conspiracy is in! KBTX doesn't report on a fire in Shiro. KBTX hates Shiro. What, did they cause 9/11 too? Or maybe every fire in every city isn't reported on. Take your pick and/or get a life!

"Tired Of No News From KBTX" - Maybe because they didn't know about the fire. They must be making news at KBTX because you are here reading the website.

well who ever started the blaze shouldnt just get the ticket.. i believe ALL people who start a fire during a burn ban should be put in jail for a while, maybe that will teach them a listen, HA.. yeah right...
