Scott and White and St Joseph Regional Health Center have teamed up to help out the Children's Miracle Network and you can help. Local radio station, Candy 95.1, is hosting a radiothon Thursday through Saturday to help raise money for the Network.
The Children's Miracle Network, Brazos Valley recognized a need for more pediatric care in the Bryan- College Station area. So it decided to raise awareness and money for pediatric services by holding a radiothon.
Candy 95.1 radio personalities are broadcasting their shows live from St Joseph and listeners are responding in a big way.
" It is going phenomenally. The community is responding to all the pledges we've asked for," said Ashley House, with the Children's Miracle Network Brazos Valley.
One hundred percent of the proceeds will go towards supporting local pediatric patients by providing more services and funding for research on childhood diseases.
" We are hoping to keep more kids in the Brazos Valley area instead of having to go to Temple or Houston by bringing in different equipment and enhancing the programs we already have," said House.
But the money will also be used to give young ones something to look forward to during their hospital visits.
" Play room and games to play while they're in the hospital that make it a little less intimidating, less frightening experience for them," said Lyssa Hamilton with Scott and White.
That's something nine-year-old Spencer Bruegger appreciated during his stay at St Joseph after breaking his leg.
" One time they let me have a water gun fight in my room and that was really fun and I got to play game cube," said Bruegger.
Local health officials are excited about enhancing their pediatric services. Things like more wheel chairs, cardiac monitors, and beds are needed. They're hoping the generosity of the Brazos Valley will help to make it all possible.
To pledge a donation you can call 1-800- 299- KIDS. The radiothon continues Friday and Saturday from 6 in the morning until 6 in the evening.
