A local baseball team was sent off in style Wednesday evening to the Senior League World Series.

The Bryan West Boys are headed to Bangor, Maine to compete in the series.

About 200 friends, family and fans gathered at the West Little League Field in Bryan for a pep rally.

Several community leaders were also on hand to show their support.

The team will play Monday against Lithuania.

A fundraiser is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Dixie Tire on William J. Bryan to help offset travel costs for the boys' families. You can buy a fajita plate with rice, beans and pico for $6.

My son played on the West All-Star team and it is sad to think that his talent would have been un-noticed because he did not grow up on the west side. How narrow-minded can you get? Shame on Max for posting a negative comment. To to my son it is not about where you are from but the desire to play and win! I am thankful for the LL coaches not being biased, seeing his talent and asking him to play. We all remember the Little League pleadge and no where in that pleadge does it speak of discrimination. Again, shame on you (Max location: Bryan tx on Aug 8, 2008 11:20pm)

Way to go guys!! Bring home the GOLD!!! To all out there who say that this is a team that was made up of players who are not from the Westside of Bryan, so what!!! If this is true, they are just doing what I have seen countless other Little league teams do as well. So, if their coaches found a way to use the system to their advantage then more power to them. It is no less that the rest of the coaches do in this area.

The boys are not all from Bryan, some are from College Station. As far as I am concerned they are representing "WEST SIDE" NOT BRYAN, TEXAS. STILL PROUD OF THE BOYS, NOT PROUD OF THE ADULTS/MANAGERS INVOLVED.

WEST, EAST & HARVEY.. all from BRYAN and representing TEXAS. The boys are no strangers to each other... lets not forget we are REPRESENTING OUR AREA as a TEAM. Lets be postive and be proud we have the privilege to be on that feild in Maine.

WAY 2 GO MAKE SURE U MAKE THEM MAD WHEN YALL WIN!!!!!!!

Posted by: max Location: bryan tx on Aug 8, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Happy for the boys, but what about the four west area players that were not picked as all stars. West had 2 teams to pick all stars from. Their places were taken by boys from Harvey, and East. The west officials decided winning was more important than playing with players that live in the west area. sad /sad day for little league. so bottom line the team is not made up of west area boys (who have played together for years), but players from West ---Harvey & East. Three Bryan Little leagues playing under the title of West. Remember Little League Pledge in part....I will play fair.......SHAME ON THE WEST OFFICIALS, AND DISTRICT 33 ADMINISTRATORS

Those boys that play for the West Side LL did not have a team to play with in there district LL and were released from there repective league. West LL was gracious enough to let them play.We are in the LL World Series and no one can take that away from those talented boys. Good luck to all of you. As far as this football thing lets not blow this out of the water and spoil what these boys have accomplished over the summer. They have done the unthinkable and made there dream come true.May God Bless You. Coach Martinez, Coach Galvan, Coach J. Martinez Thank You Also. You have not only been a coach to the boys you have been great supporters of these boys and great role models. Thank You So Much.

Congratulations West! I'm so proud of you. My son looks up to you! To the BHS coaches shame on you for trying to destroy these boys dreams. They have worked to hard to be treated with such disrespect. You should be supporting them for accomplishing something no one else here ever has. Good luck West and remember no matter what happens we love you!

My family is very of proud of this team and their accomplishments. We take pride in living in Bryan and in this community. We came to the pep rally as well to show our support. Each player should be commended for their role on the team, for it is each of your contributions working together that makes up the team. Continue to hold your head up high and keep the wonderful spirit of baseball alive for all of us. We will be rooting for you each step of the way. God Bless you all for safe travels and play time. GO TEXAS!! GO BRYAN!!! GO WEST!!!

Not surprising that the BHS coaches would tell these boys they would not have a place on the team! Some things never change. Its another way of weeding out students in their own political ways. Shame on you! But again, some things never change at BHS.

Congratulations guys! The best is yet to come! Go and REPRESENT Bryan, TX with pride!

I very happy for these boys. It's a huge accoplisment and they should be proud. It's the coaches i have the problem with. My understadning is the team was formed with players that are not part of the West program. They don't live in that area. The west boys I believe are a good enough team without adding the players that don't qualify for that district. I feel it's a bad represtation or Bryan Little League. I would hate for them to go all the way then be stripped of the title because of some bad adult decisions. To the BHS football coaches.. shame on you!

Posted by: LLWest Fan Location: Bryan on Aug 7, 2008 at 08:52 AM
Congrats! to the entire team. Boys, you have made us proud and have represented us very well. I was in attendance last night and was happy to see the support that the community has shown you. I was sadden to hear that the Coaches for the BHS football team don't feel the same way. This is a once in a lifetime chance for these boys. Telling them they may not have place on the team if they decide to go to Maine is so wrong. Think about it. They have worked so hard to get as far as they have gotten. You also are part of this community because Football is a big part of this community, so don't bring those boys spirits down, support them for all their hard work. GO!!WEST!!GO!!
