How would you like to find water standing in your street every time there was a good rain? How would you like the sidewalks in your neighborhood to be in desperate need of repair?

Folks in some parts of North Bryan will tell you, that's what they deal with everyday.

Now, $1 million in capital improvements should be taking care of those repairs. However, while some residents are happy with the funding, others are skeptical about the plan.

"For many years this area has been neglected," Reverend Robert Wilson, an activist for Bryan residents, said.

Potholes and worn asphalt are an unwelcome sight for many residents in this North Bryan neighborhood.

"This street here has lot of pot holes in it and water stands when it rains," Bryan resident Reginald Nicks said.

However, this area is getting some help.

The City of Bryan has set aside close to $1 million to improve sidewalks along Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.

It is part of the city's five-year Capital Improvement Plan.

But, residents are a bit skeptical about the project.

"It's a wait and see thing," Wilson said. "They have been promised for years that this would take place, but they haven't seen any results."

The city says construction on the MLK project will begin in 2009.

As for road improvements and potholes, the city says those are fixed based on need.

"It has been said that Bryan is 20 to 30 years behind, but I would go a little bit farther than that," Wilson said.

However, if all goes well over the next five years, the look of this area will change for the better.

This gentleman has every right to say that it's a wait and see situation. If the city has been promising them assistance for years and not done anything, he certainly should voice his concerns. Rev. Wilson, I am proud of you for standing up for your rights as a tax paying citizen of Bryan. I saw you on TV about 2 weeks ago asking for help at a city council meeting but I didn't see any motion being made to give you the help you asked for. I hope the city does help this time. 2009 is a long way off, especially when you have sidewalks and potholes the size of the ones shown on the video. Good luck.

I live in North Bryan and I am not skeptical. Never before has the City had a Capital Improvement Plan with funds already approved by the Council. This will happen and it will be greatly appreciated.

Each side of Bryan needs to be treated the same. If something is causing danger to a family residence and others, FIX IT Bryan City! But citizens on that side of Bryan will need to get involved in the city council meetings. Let your voices be heard, stand up for the right thing. Act Now. The more voices, the better. Don't take no for an answer and don't think your representative can do it by himself. Act now!
