An election night confrontation placed a Madison County commissioner under criminal investigation and a cloud of controversy. Now, that commissioner has decided to step down from her position on the county court.
Elsie Farris has resigned from the post she was appointed to just three months ago. She was chosen to finish out the term of her late husband, Commissioner Don Farris.
The alleged confrontation took place April 11 at the courthouse where runoff votes were being counted. She's accused of attacking the sister of a commissioner candidate. Farris wasn't booked, but she was taken to jail.
Bennett says the investigation continues and charges are still pending. He expects some action to be taken by early next week. County Judge Cecil Neely says he will name a replacement for Farris Thursday morning.
