BANGOR, MA - The Bryan West All Stars opened its World Series play with an 8-2 win over Lithuania this morning at Mansfield Stadium.
Texas East third baseman David Williams hit a home run to lead off the top of the second inning to tie the game at 1 after Lithuania had taken a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Texas East added another run in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead that lasted until the bottom of the fourth, when Lithuania scored a single run to make it 2-2.
However, four runs on three hits and an error in the fifth enabled the U.S. Southwest champ to break the game open.
For Texas East, Matt Byer was 2-for-3, Arthur Garza was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Miguel Perez was 2-for-4.
David Contreras got the complete game win, allowing six hits.
In today’s second game, New Jersey rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and then erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning to defeat Ohio 13-2 in six innings.
Darren Fischer was 4-for-4 with one RBI for the U.S. East champ, now 2-0 in Pool B. Barry Larro was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, Chet Godfrey 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jack Tyler 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
For Ohio, which fell to 0-2, Logan Gray was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Gage Mick pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing four hits. Neither of the two runs he gave up was earned. He walked one and struck out five.
