Local emergency management officials are trying to stay ahead of hurricane season. A shelter rally was held Tuesday at the Brazos Center.
It was an informational meeting for groups interested in becoming designated shelters for Brazos County. Requirements for being a shelter were discussed as well as training for shelter workers.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army explained each of its roles in disasters. Members of churches that were shelters during hurricanes Katrina and Rita also shared their experience. Brazos County's Inter-jurisdictional Emergency Management Team is working on a plan on how to handle a variety of issues.
