News Three has obtained new information regarding the Bryan Police officer suspended for alleged inappropriate actions.

We now know who Sgt. Steve French was investigating when he reportedly acted out of line.

Jonathon D'Wayne Moore, 23, of Bryan has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. According to court documents, Moore was having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

Police reports say on June 24th Moore slapped the girl when he found her cheating on him. The girl allegedly called police, and Moore was arrested.

According to court documents Sgt. Steve French was involved in this investigation. As News Three first told you this week, French was removed from duty August 6th for three violations of department regulations -- use of force, conduct unbecoming, and truthfulness.

French has the option to appeal the suspension, which would take the matter to arbitration.

We do know police have an audio tape recording of French's alleged altercation with Moore. We have submitted an open records request to get a copy of that recording.

Police have withheld information regarding the criminal case since it coincides with an internal affairs investigation.

We do know the District Attorney's office and the Texas Rangers are looking into whether French committed any criminal wrongdoing.

News Three tried to call French, but no one answered.

This isn't the first time Moore has been in trouble with the law. In fact, he's been in and out of jail since 2004.

Most charges have been misdemeanors, but Moore has served time for burglary of a building.

Really???? These are the sorts of people who our laws are designed to protect???? So we'll dismiss an officer for infringing on this pedofiles rights, ridiculous. Imagine if that were your daugther, what would you have done?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 19, 2008 at 06:54 AM
To all of you who've decided to be Mr. French's judge jury and executioner before you've even seen the evidence... You better hope that if you're ever accused of something that you're not tried in the same manner in which you're judging this man! Shame on all of you!

Posted by: Jv Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 02:21 PM
I would like to hear both sides of this story, but right now, my take on this is that this creep sexually molested a 13 year old girl, and when Officer French arrested him, this pathetic excuse for a human resisted arrest. Natural, this thug didnt want to go to jail. So now, sounds like Officer French is under investigation for taking this piece of trash off the street. I hope this fine officer is exhonerated! Officer French, thank you for taking this trash off the streets

Posted by: Wendy Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 02:01 PM
As the Mother of an assaulted child, this disgusts me all together. I don't know how Officer French didn't knock his teethe down his throat! My question is regarding the parents. How can they live with themselves? There should be an article in the paper about "Neglectful Parents of a 13 Year old child Charged Along With Child Molester." Hopefully they have this kid in counseling. She obviously has a "lot to talk about." Child Molesters should get roughed up a bit just to kick it all off! He will get it when he gets to TDCJ.

"I would certainly feel safer with a fine officer that has fought real criminals on the dangerous streets of Bryan protecting me in College Station." I'd feel even safer waiting until the investigation is complete and the Police release the information regarding what if anything he lied about to get him suspended. I'm told that he has been a fine officer, but the best of people can eventually develop a God complex, and that we DON'T need. OTOH, I know that the bad guys like nothing better than framing a good guy, so until the investigators can confirm the facts and ascertain which is the case, I think we all need to reserve judgement.

Rick and I share the same opinion. I would certainly feel safer with a fine officer that has fought real criminals on the dangerous streets of Bryan protecting me in College Station. Sgt. French would be an asset to the city of College Station. I think CSPD should call him up and offer him a job today.

Posted by: Rick Location: College Station on Aug 17, 2008 at 04:45 PM
The only thing that i can see that Sgt. French didnt do correctly was give this guy a beating....Come to CSPD I am sure we would hire you. And I would sleep better at night knowing you are on the job.

Posted by: Nicole Location: Bryan on Aug 17, 2008 at 09:31 AM
Never ever take the word of a no good, child molesting, Bryan hood rat. I am certain this fine officer will be vindicated. Mr. French thank you for making the city of Bryan a better place.

Posted by: Appalled Location: TX on Aug 17, 2008 at 06:33 AM
To the masses of people that feel Sgt French lied, I suggest you wait to pass judgement until you know what the alleged lie was about. The department hasn't released anything yet, however you have already convicted him the area of public opinion. If you know anything about Steve French, he is completely honest, sometimes to a fault. I would rather have him as an officer at BPD than some of the others that have been proved guilty of lying, yet miraculously kept their jobs. As in most cases in Bryan, if the suspect that is arrested is a "turd" and makes a complaint, the ACLU and NAACP put pressure on the department to take action. It is a sad day in Bryan to lose Sgt French. He will win his arbirtration and again BPD will look foolish.

LOck his but up and kast the keys away for good.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: B/CS on Aug 16, 2008 at 09:04 PM
I support BPD, but you are no good to the dept if you are untruthful. I will still continue to support BPD.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 16, 2008 at 03:07 PM
How are you suppose to trust a police man that lies about stuff? This officer was a Sgt at that and trusted to lead a group of officers on patrol. When no one can trust him because he lies what else are you suppose to do? Do you want an untruthful officer on your streets lying to you??

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 16, 2008 at 07:47 AM
To poster Nate: AMEN!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: around on Aug 16, 2008 at 01:59 AM
I hope the officer never get his job back. Come on yall he lied. How can he be a good witness that lie and with hold info. He got exactly what he deserve. Next time I hope he tells the truth. He is just as gulty and Johnthan.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: BCS on Aug 15, 2008 at 10:36 PM
What a miscarraige of justice! Now Bryan has lost a good officer and gained another molester. Justice? There are other cities in Texas that will GLADLY hire officer French. How will the new chief deal with this?

Posted by: Give him his job back Location: Bryan on Aug 15, 2008 at 10:22 PM
This officer needs to be given his job back. We hired him to protect our kids from child molesters and it sounds like that is exactly what he did. That child molester looks like a HUD rat if I've ever seen one.

Posted by: Llinda Location: Bryan on Aug 15, 2008 at 09:55 PM
I am trying to come up with the corret wording of my feelings regarding Officer French -- why law enforcement officers do not receive more respect -- Officer Steve French is a hero. He represents what most of us in this community believe in but yet, for doing his job, trying to take a child molester off the streets, he is punished. No wonder our children are so abused. Wake up America. Whoever decided Officer French should be on "leave" shame on you. We need more officers like him and more in the community to stand up and to quite being the silent majority. This is totally unacceptahble. Why is it the criminal has more rights than the victim?!!!

Posted by: dave webb Location: Modesty, county of Ethics, State of Faith, 1 nation under God on Aug 15, 2008 at 09:03 PM
ok i won't get involved with the officer, that's been covered enough by everybody's $.02, but a 13 GIRL CHEATING? Seriously? Most 13 year olds have never been on a date, much less kissed someone, even lesser had sexual relations with someone, even much lesser CHEATED on anyone!!! That is crazy!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 15, 2008 at 08:31 PM
I think anyone that wants French back on the job needs to start calling Bryan PD and let them know!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Sad day Location: CS on Aug 15, 2008 at 08:20 PM
John from Bryan took the words out of my mouth. Granted, the guy didn't deserve any mercy but a cop just CANNOT lie about an incident. How could he ever testify on the stand again. "Sgt. do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth......this time." The lie could and should cost him his job, not the use of force.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Bryan on Aug 15, 2008 at 06:27 PM
Maybe we need to get a mob of God fearing citizens and go into these HUD areas of Bryan. Give them the same things They have been giving to us for years. No it would not be right. We will just let them keep doing it to us and our families. We can just set back because we are paying their way anyway. Let them keep firing good officer's. Let the criminals control more areas of the city. We only have a few safe areas now anyway in Bryan.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Bryan on Aug 15, 2008 at 04:38 PM
He should have smacked the child molester up between the eyes then kicked him in the crotch! I hope the officer is back on the Job!

Posted by: Carlos Location: Bryan on Aug 15, 2008 at 04:33 PM
Yeah,he roughed up a perv. NAAY, He lied to superiors. Work place, military, police. You lie, you get popped. Simple!

Posted by: A mom Location: Bryan on Aug 15, 2008 at 02:44 PM
If those who insist on breaking the law have a problem with their treatment by the police they can obey the law and their problem is solved. I hope Sgt. French is back on the job soon. We really need him and others like him on our streets. Thanks to all the officers who put their life on the line every time they make a call.

Policeman French is my HERO... We want policeman like Policeman French to protect our children

Give the POLICEMAN a Gold Medal...What a brave man...we need more like him..Whoever suspended him should be fired....We need more policeman like French....let us as law abiding citizen support our policeman that stand up for what is right...Put him back out on the streets...to keep our kids safe...

"If the tape is public information then we as citizens have every right to hear it, and yes form my own opinion. Any educated person has every right to hear these tapes and form their own opinion of what happened." So you're a fan of trial by media and just letting the jury rubberstamp whatever KBTX or the DA or some good defense attorney chooses to selectively release to push forward some hidden agenda? The whole reason for having a Jury system is because "you never get a second chance to make a first impression.", so it behooves the legal system to keep as much under wraps UNTIL they have gathered everything possible Positive or negative, then reveal it ALL at the same time. First to a Grand Jury and if necessary to a trial jury, THEN by al means to the public to prove that those juries were right. Dribbling the information out first for the Sgt one day, then against him the next before he has his day in court does nothing but poison any chance he has for a fair and balanced trial.

I have faith. Faith that the God I belive in sees all and knows all. Knowing that in my heart, everyone will get what's coming to them. As a PEACE officer, one has the duty to walk a fine line to prevent his/herself from becoming influenced by his/her emotions. Nobody's perfect however, and I have daughters so I can understand any uncharacteristic actions taken by the officer. Due to the crime, I myself would slide this case file under the rug in a old secret room, and maybe issue an anger management class. -- To Mr. Moore: you get what you give, and your punishment phase now begins when big "Bubba" asks "Was sex really that important to you? How about now?"

Posted by: MY OPINION Location: BRYAN on Aug 15, 2008 at 11:25 AM
quite naturally we're repulsed by the fact that a 23yr old is involved w/a 13yr old. i don't know what the officer did, but the fact still remains that he must adhere to the standards of his job. something had to take place for the bpd to do this type of investigation. i would have a hard time not assaulting this punk too, but when you have a job, you have to follow the rules of the employer.waiting on all the facts to be revealed. supporters of the officer: keep him,and his family in your prayers. RIGHTEOUSNESS ALWAYS PREVAILS. IF HE DID WHAT WAS RIGHT, I HAVE NO DOUBT HE WILL BE VINDICATED IN THE END.if not,he will suffer consequences like any of us would. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW. he should have known that the prisoners will take care of this man when he arrives there.

Someone once said, "Only when we have knelt before God, can we stand before men". Steve a man of honor, integrity, and values, dealt with those who have none of the above. Steve has been judged lacking by the BPD admin and is now awaiting judgement by the criminal justice system as is the perp. Steve will have to fully fund his defense on all civil and criminal charges while the perps' defense is provided by you and me. Steve's whole life is at risk while the perp dreams of hundreds of thousands with maybe a little gov't provided jail time at risk. This drama is being played out in every state of our nation again and again and leads to the question of why would anyone risk being a Peace Officer?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 15, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Looks okay in his mugshot to me. What seems to be the problem here? Did the officer not say "pretty please" to the little child molester?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 15, 2008 at 11:01 AM
to watcher: If the tape is public information then we as citizens have every right to hear it, and yes form my own opinion. Any educated person has every right to hear these tapes and form their own opinion of what happened. Would you rather just be told your opinion by the news or paper. The news outlets are here to report the story and let you form your own opinion.

Taking down a child molester and losing his job for it? Shows you just how sad the world is today..Who cares if he used force, it appears nothing else has seemed to get through the sickos head.

Posted by: ANONYMOUS Location: BRYAN on Aug 15, 2008 at 10:06 AM
What a mess. a grown man molesting a 13yr old child. he needs to be locked away for a long time.I can understand the office losing his cool, but he shouldn't have lied. And this poor child needs help? "cheating" on him. what is she doing living like this? where are her parents. are they aware that this child is putting herself at risk for all kinds of diseases? she needs some very serious help. sounds like she needs to be in cps custody so someone can properly supervise her.

What is truthfulness? And why is that counting against this officer?

Posted by: RESPONSE TO JD Location: BRYAN on Aug 15, 2008 at 09:57 AM
J.D:What culture are you talking about? It seems you are being racist, and pointing at blacks. Need i remind you that this happens in ALL cultures!! Remember the minister from plano, and the other guy who was arrested at the same time for the same crime? they were both white. fact is EVERY RACE HAS ITS' TRASH, AND EVERY CITY HAS ITS' LOW LIFE CRIMINALS.

Posted by: judge dredd Location: bcs on Aug 15, 2008 at 09:40 AM
let the cops be the judge and jury.on certain crimes the police should have the option of flogging the tird.it would be a bigger deterrant than jail for most of this criminal trash.

Posted by: a resident Location: Bryan on Aug 15, 2008 at 09:28 AM
I personally think that all child molesters should be handled "with force" Save the taxpayers some money and get them off the streets.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 15, 2008 at 09:11 AM
To: Sick of Bryan Crime thugs I agree fully with you. Not only is one less cop off the streets, he’s being fired and the chief is wasting tax payers money to fund this dog & pony show. I am all for a privately funded legal fund for BPD officers whom are put in these type situations. 4th Generation Bryan Citizen

where does it say in the documents that French was wrong in using force, conduct unbecoming, and truthfulness.

Posted by: Watcher Location: College Station on Aug 15, 2008 at 08:29 AM
Personally, I think that it would be a mistake for the tape to be released, and I think that KBTX should have had better sense than to ask for it. Yes, we all would like to know the gossip, but once it's out there, everybody is going to start forming opinions, and if the investigators who have access to a lot more information than just the tape decide that the matter should be refered to a Grand Jury, everyone who sits on one here in Bryan will already be biased on the initial incomplete data that they have heard. If you look at the blogs, it's ALREADY happening just with what's been released so far; a lot of the bloggers probably wouldn't indict even if they found out that Moore was in critical condition and later died after French got through with him and French had been threatening him for months. Not saying that anything like that happened here, but it DID happen a few years back in Houston. And there's no such thing as a change of venue for the Grand Jury....

Posted by: jack Location: bcs on Aug 15, 2008 at 07:00 AM
He is scum, but you cant have police taking the law into their own hands and then lieing about it. Let the the judge do his job too. If the police could rough up all the people in bryan with prior records then majority of our town would have bulls-eye on them.

Posted by: Concerned in Brazos Co. on Aug 15, 2008 at 02:42 AM
This scum needs to be permanently locked away. He is a menace to children and society He can't keep his but out of trouble and I'm sure there is a special place in hell for his kind...God Bless Bryan PD & CS PD...

Give the police officer a medal and have a public flogging of this despicable child molesting human being...This would be justice ...

Posted by: Sick of Bryan Crime thugs Location: Bryan on Aug 14, 2008 at 11:49 PM
The Bryan HUD rats are loving this. One less cop to keep them from being arrested. It not like we do not have a crime problem of major size in Bryan. BPD has problems already hiring new officers. The chief said a few weeks ago calls for police are up 9% from last year. We may need to set up a legal fund to help this Officer.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 14, 2008 at 11:31 PM
Sgt. French will be found innocent. It is ridiculous it ever even came to this. Chief Morrow is wasting taxpayers money on this railroad of a good, honest officer.

Posted by: jd Location: b-cs on Aug 14, 2008 at 11:24 PM
This is another example of a "character" from this culture that absolutely has no respect for human life and no moral values ! When will someone in this culture "take charge" and attempt to serve as role models and show them how to walk a straight line and stay out of trouble ?? Is this possible with these folks ? Man alive-having sex with a 13 year old !! Someone please tell me why these folks have to live like this ?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: BCS on Aug 14, 2008 at 11:21 PM
If Bryan had more officers like this crime would be lower in BCS. Bryan officers have been attacked in these HUD RAT areas. We have to many registered sex offenders walking around Bryan.

Posted by: david on Aug 14, 2008 at 10:51 PM
you have good cops and bad cops, cops like french need to be put away also and we pay this cop to protect us ain't no telling how many people this cop has screwed around

Maybe if more people treated things like this in the same manner Bryan would be a nicer place for families. Instead you have trash like this with children having sex in public places in Bryan. Oh yeah I want my kids to grow up in this place. Tell you what let me know where this officer lives I'm buying the house next door.

Posted by: John Location: Bryan on Aug 14, 2008 at 09:39 PM
There's no doubt what ever the Sgt did was probably deserved. D'Wyne had relations w/ a 13yr old. Bryan PD would have proly let him go! But French lied. You don't lie. Tell the truth, slap the hand, case closed. We'll see if arbitrators will let a someone who lies back in. Only time will tell. Oh and KBTX if there is a recording of what happened, the po-po will never let you have it!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 14, 2008 at 09:26 PM
Officer French was doing his job and he does it well. He will be proven innocent.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 14, 2008 at 09:13 PM
Steve, thank you for being a fine officer for Bryan. It's a shame our laws now protect scum and not the good people. I don't know why anyone would want to be a police officer today, considering the lack of support they receive and the constant criticism from ignorant citizens who have no idea what our police have to deal with on a daily basis. I wish you the best.

Steve French is one of the straightest officer in BPD. He doesn't deserve this because of some child molesting scumbag. I hope he fights it and wins, then goes to a PD which will appreciate him.

I believe the officer acted out of concern for the victim.Officer French,my prayers are with you,and your family. What law would convict you for protecting society. The law should be directed toward Moore. He is the one who needs conviction. If the law keep protecting these people, they will continue to violate the law.

After reading the comments from this news story and another one on here today, I am disgusted by all of the rude people who keep putting down Bryan. I have lived here for nine years now, in Bryan, and I love it. All towns have criminals, and it is very frustrating to have people lump all into one category. There are a lot of good people in Bryan. There are some other things I would like to add, but then I would be putting my self on the same lower level as some of you. I consider Bryan and College Station as one place, like so many places have in their title B/CS, not just Bryan and not just College Station. Go BRYAN!!!!! Go COLLEGE STATION!!!
