How many bicycle cops does it take to stop a runaway truck? The answer is four.

Two University Police officers on bikes say they saw Christopher Brown doing what's called a "brake stand" near Hurricane Harry's. Brown was spinning his rear tires until they smoked.

Brown then reportedly drove away out of the parking lot, even though the bike cops signaled him to stop. The truck proceeded through the Northgate area with bikes behind. Two more officers on bikes joined in the chase.

Brown and his faster mode of transportation might just have gotten away, except he turned onto a street blocked by road construction.

He now faces a charge of evading arrest.

Has anyone heard if he was drunk/high? And in response to those that wonder what he was guilty of if he was only spinning his tires...maybe the cops wanted to check to see if he was drunk/high, as that kind of behavior can indicate he was. Not to mention he was leaving a bar.

Posted by: Leah on Aug 22, 2008 at 04:39 PM
First of all, for all of you who automatically assume that just because someone spins their tires they are a redneck then that in my opinion is total ignorance. You would think by now people wouldn't be so quick to judge. Besides that you read 5 paragraphs and believe them! I think this whole situation is pathetic. In order to get an evading arrest charge he must have been running from the bicycle cops. Lets use our brains for a minute people...don't you think if he was running from men on bikes and he was in a truck he could have done so successfully. I have a great feeling he will win in court and I hope he does.

I agree with Mandie, this guy is a IDIOT! He deserves to face more than just evading arrest! What if he had lost control of that vehicle and hit and killed someone? What if he had ran over someone you love and care about?

Posted by: Mandie Location: Bryan on Aug 21, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Yes, he is an idiot ! He deserves to get treated like an idiot especially when he acted like an idiot. Ok..So, what would have happened IF he would have lost control of his truck and ran over people? If UPD saw him "burning" his tires and did not say anything but he ended up hurting others, who would be getting the shaft? As soon as I graduate, which is in 6 months, I am leaving this hill billy town and moving to a place where people have common sense versus back woods ethics. I can't stand how everyone comes together when it people refer to this area as B/CS but when people in College Station bash people in Bryan everyday. The only thing this town has going for it is the TAMU system. If not for TAMU, this one horse town would be the same as Hearne, Bedias or Snook.

Posted by: Marcus Location: College Station on Aug 21, 2008 at 12:04 AM
He deserves everything he will get. Just another stupid, ego hungry, bumpkin trying to show off. Next time he will think before he tries to be "billy bad a_s". How funny. Makes my day.

He is NO thug or idiot! Bike cops did not have lights or sirens; so he never saw or heard them trying to get his attention & what is bike cops doing out that late!!!!! CS campus police are the idoits!! He will win this in court!

"Cause if your leaving a parking lot full of moving vehicles how do you see someone on a bike at night?" The REALLY BRIGHT red and blue strobes are usually a hint, just as they are on police cars. "And if your actually running from the bicycle cops why would you stop, make a turn, then stop again at the light before turning onto university property." Didn's see anything about him stopping for a light, and if he wasn't running, where was he going on campus when he turned into the street that was blocked? Sounds like he wasn't going TO anywhere but rather AWAY from where the cops were. "Its BS and they know it!" My thought exactly, it's the same BS that these idiots ALWAYS try to spout when they are caught. Ever watch "Speeders" on Trutv?

ok if this guy was actually guilty of something, it would be spinning his tires! Cause if your leaving a parking lot full of moving vehicles how do you see someone on a bike at night? And if your actually running from the bicycle cops why would you stop, make a turn, then stop again at the light before turning onto university property. Its BS and they know it! Real criminals that run don't abide by traffic laws if they are running to avoid being caught! Are you Serious people, now I know why there are so many aggie jokes, cause this is retarded and the ones saying he deserved it your just the same.

Cynthia, no names will be posted. If am in error, I appoligize.

To Anon - Responding to Me: First off, give your name...Next, UPD must be special, because when a person passes the TCLOSE Peace Officer's License test they are bound by TEXAS law, not A&M law. UPD Officers DO have jurisdiction in Bryan, Amarillo, Houston, or wherever in the state. However, as a Peace Officer, there is a bit of judgment when they witness criminal activity. You're not going to see a BPD Officer in Dallas writing a ticket for jay-walking. BUT, if that BPD Officer saw someone committ a murder you can bet they are going to give chase AND contact authorities. If UPD is under the assumption that they cannot leave A&M Campus then they are sadly mistaken!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 19, 2008 at 01:51 PM
Anon: You do not have any idea about what you are talking about. UPD has Jurisdiction in every county in Texas that A/M has property in. Also any City police officer has Jurisdiction in the county the work. They are all Texas peace officers. Show me a county TAMU does not have land. Texas A/M authority comes from the state. Buy a Texas penal code. Cynthia is right.

Posted by: Anon - Responding to Cynthia Location: CS on Aug 19, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Cynthia..As an employee of TAMU, I know that Upd is bound by their jurisdiction & thats TAMU and to some degree - Northgate. Upd does not have jurisdiction in Bryan, Amarillo, etc. As a University police officer, if they are off duty and witness a crime, they have to alert the proper authorities just like we do. If Upd officers witness a crime taking place on University premises, they can give chase, but they have to let either Bryan or College Station police know. They dont have automatic jurisdiction anywhere just because they are police officers. I know this because I have family that worked with College Station police dept, and now work with Upd.

Posted by: Cynthia Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 09:59 PM
In defense of the UPD officers being on 'private property'. All UPD officers are State of Texas Peace Officers...just like BPD, CSPD, and BCSO officers. So, they have every right to be where ever they see crime...or potential crime...taking place. They are technically bound by their peace officers license to stop crime where ever they see it...even if that means they witness crime while on vacation in Amarillo. (But, really, who would go on vacation to Amarillo...lol)

Bryan may need to annex this area.

You want to send him a strong "MASSAGE" that this won't be tolerated? well a massage might just put him to sleep, and he'd be driving drowsy. i guess you meant send him a strong MESSAGE? I'D like the massage myself.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 08:40 PM
This kind of thing happens all the time in CS.

Posted by: Woody Location: College Station on Aug 18, 2008 at 07:43 PM
This should be on Americas dumbest criminals.

Posted by: ANONYMOUS Location: CS on Aug 18, 2008 at 05:59 PM
I'd have to say that your area of Texas is full of so-called educated idiots...would YOU see a bicycle cop at night????

Posted by: Jerry Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 05:47 PM
I'm with anonymous at 4:13, since when do the Kampus Kops patrol North Gate private property and if this guy is such a criminal why not call CSPD when he "ran" and give them the license number. These gus need to stick to the campus and quit trying to be real cops.

Posted by: Cynthia Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 05:19 PM
Cost of new tires: $800, Cost to bail out of jail: $500 (justice web, which also indicates his Houston address), Cost of getting caught by bike cops when you're in a vehicle: PRICELESS.

Posted by: Mark Location: bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 05:18 PM
LOL is right.... Think about it ppls.. People leave at Harris all the time doing all kinds of misdemeanor crimes but never that should get caught. In this case; doing a burn out, come on.... Then he must have gone about 30mph, stop at the stop light if he had turned? Then i mean, if he did see them why turn? Could have "gunned it" if he was a drag racer? Just dont add up!

Posted by: HA Location: CS on Aug 18, 2008 at 05:08 PM
Man that sucks getting busted by a campus cop...haha!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: College Station on Aug 18, 2008 at 05:07 PM
How many of you could see a bicycle cop trying to pull you over if your truck was taller than them . . .because their flashing red and blue lights are so obviously flashing in your face. Oh thats right, they don't have lights or sirens! So how could a car get pulled over in the dark by a bicycle? I can tell you I wouldn't have seen a bicycle trying to wave me down. Just saying.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: CS on Aug 18, 2008 at 05:04 PM
If this guy was really trying to escape then why were 4 bicycles able to tail him? Don't you think if he wanted to get away he would have. . . think people.

Posted by: anonymous Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 04:13 PM
The first thought that came to my mind was why were TAMU bike cops doing in the Hurricane Harry's private parking lot attempting to arrest anyone. I don't believe any law was broken here unless someone from Harry's complained but then why would they complain to TAMU

Posted by: Dave Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 04:12 PM
Your headline is misleading. I believe the bike cops were indeed up to the chase. Young Mr. Brown was apprehended.

Posted by: Jv Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 03:17 PM
OMg! As I look @ this guys picture, one word comes to mind and thats IDIOT! I agree with Elmer Williams

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 02:09 PM
to anon 11:29... May be a strong message but not a massage. One letter makes a huge difference in your statement

Posted by: Chris Location: Bryan on Aug 18, 2008 at 01:24 PM
I thought those were only cool when you are in high school...

Posted by: learn to spell Location: please on Aug 18, 2008 at 10:51 AM
annon at 11:29pm, you want to send him a strong massage? what about the happy ending?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: CS on Aug 18, 2008 at 09:22 AM
It's called a burn-out. It actually serves a purpose in drag racing...it heats your tires so they will grip the track better, thus improving your run time. ANYWAYS...this guy is an idiot...that's what he gets for trying to look cool. People that do this on the streets are so irritating, and I'm glad the cops got him for it. Maybe next time he'll think twice about bike cops.

Posted by: HaHa on Aug 18, 2008 at 08:18 AM
Gee, he was spinning his tires of his Truck at Harry's... look how red his neck is; LOL it all adds-up

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 08:13 AM
Where in the report did it say he was from Houston?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 07:03 AM
You'd be surprised how hardcore those bike officers are. They live for this kinda thing. I'm glad that he made a wrong turn and were able to make the guy stop.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: CS on Aug 17, 2008 at 11:29 PM
A Houston thug coming to CS to do crime. Nice. We need to send a strong massage to anyone coming into CS that we will not put up with this.

Posted by: BJ Location: College Station on Aug 17, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Ha, what an idiot. Even if he got away from the bike cops, they have radios and could have easily called a squad car or one of the motocops to go after him. Now he has an evading arrest charge AND he has to buy new tires for his truck

Posted by: Elmer Williams Location: College Station on Aug 17, 2008 at 10:51 PM
One word came to mind when I looked over this. IDIOT!
