TX Lawmakers Tackle Dog Mauling Laws

The dog mauling death of a Milam County woman is urging at least one state lawmaker to take steps to toughen penalties against owners of dogs that kill.

Thursday, State Representative Dan Gattis filed legislation that would strengthen current laws. In November, Lillian Stiles was killed by a pack dogs by her home near Thorndale.

Current law says an owner of a declared dangerous dog is liable for such. The dogs that attacked Stiles were not declared dangerous.

Proposed legislation would include any dog that causes serious bodily injury or death.
