Madison County authorities are asking for your help in finding a man missing since Friday, August 8.

The family of Gene Coleman, 53, says the Madison County man has not been seen for several days.

Sheriff's officials found his abandoned truck on August 8 on Dawkins Road in Normangee. His keys were located inside the vehicle.

Coleman is 5'8'', between 155 and 165 pounds. He has a black panther tattoo on his left front arm and a tattoo that says "Coleman" across his upper back.

If you have any information about Coleman's whereabouts, you're asked to call the Madison County Sheriff's Department at
936-348-2755.

My brother is a good man. He cared about his family and we care about him. Since I do not have direct contact with my family except for mamma, I send out my love. I hope he is found so he and ourselves can be at peace. God Bless.

First off My Prayers go out for all the Coleman family-May God give you strength to edure-to the rest of the judgemental people out there- out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh....What is your heart speakening?????Judge not, for you shall be judged and with what measure ye mete, shall be measured to you again, pull out the mote in your own eye before you try to pull out the mote in someone elses..You all need to read Jesus's word and stop casting stones (you who are with out sin open your own closet and rattle your own bones you have hid for a life time before you judge another....The Lord is coming soon are you prepared in your heart to stand before Him without excuse or blame, and safely say you will be in heaven at the end of your days, Jesus came for the lost and the sick, Thise that are not sick do not need a physician, what does that say for yourself? WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWS SOMETING AND THEY ARE NOT SPEAKING OUT! WHY? ARE YOU SCARED 4 YOUR SAFETY? YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT GENE'S FAMILY! IF YOU DON'T SPEAKOUT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN! WHAT IF YOU OR 1 OF YOUR LOVED ONES ARE NEXT? THERE'S NO WAY GENE JUST VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE! SOMEONE HAS 2 KNOW SOMETHING! AND PPL REALLY SHOULDN'T JUDGE HIM 4 WHAT HE DOES OR HAS DONE! WHAT CONCERNS ME IS THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAS HAPPENED HERE! AND WHAT SCARES ME IS THIS SORT OF THING WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE ABOUT IT! IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING PLEASE SPEAK OUT! HE IS A HUMAN AND A VERY LOVED 1. AND HIS FAMILY DESERVES TO KNOW ANY INFO YOU MAY HAVE ON THIS CASE. PLEASE DON'T ALLOW THIS TO BE ANOTHER COLD CASE, THIS COUNTY HAS ENOUGH OF THOSE! SOMEONE PLEASE SPEAK UP! THINK OF THE SAFETY OF OTHERS!

Irene Mosher wants to let her family know that she is thinking of them during this trying time. She is in her 70's & unable to drive & cannot afford long distance for those haters that like to talk trash about the family. I don't really know him but blood is blood. It doesn't matter what this man has done in the past. The past is the past. His family is a very caring group & nobody deserves what they are going through. He is an adult maybe that is why it took them so long to report him missing. Don't judge them you don't know what you would do if you were in their shoes. You can say what you would do but you don't know till you sit there. And as for the comments about Rosie.... that doesnt pertain to Mr. Coleman yea Karma does come back around so you might need to watch what you say. This family is extended all over the place. Most of them are very educated people. My Grandma McWhorter talked very highly of all of her family before she left this world. So, they must be good people.

This is so sad to me!Gene's family is worried beyond belief about their loved one!! They don't want to hear about tax money....for goodness sakes!! They want to hear that they are in our thoughts and prayers and that we hope their love one is brought back to them safely!! It does not matter what has happened in Gene's past!! He is a husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and etc. He and his family deserve some respect in this despairing time of their lives!! To Gene's family you are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that Gene is brought back home to all of you!

hey people you that talk bad about someone who is missing sweep under your own feet first.genes mother and dad were very good people.and his sisters and brother are fine people.they love him as much as you would your own in thi situation so have some respect for this family.

Posted by: Diana Location: Dallas on Aug 23, 2008 at 02:24 AM
To Askingwhy: You say "YOUR" tax money.Guess what we all pay our "tax money" to the same pot that you do. Gene Coleman has served 5 years in the army. He was so good at his position that in his 201 files - I personally read a letter of merrit from the Marines because of his accomplishments. This was in Germany. Upon his release from Military duty - he moved his family back to the USA and obtained a full time job. Having said that- Do you still have a problem with OUR tax moneys going to help a man that not only has earned his salt but deserves it too?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 22, 2008 at 10:55 PM
This is a grown man. He does not suffer from mental illness nor is he in a medical crisis. Why is this search so important? I'll tell the family one thing. You all better turn into detectives yourselves. You all know Gene better than the law enforcement does. Strange things are happening in Madison County. It's like we live in the X-files.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Madisonville on Aug 22, 2008 at 10:38 PM
Why is the family on here, sending messages back and forth? You all could text or call each other. You all do have my empathy though. I know what it feels like to loose a family member and never know what happened to them. I hope Gene shows back up.

Posted by: dave Location: CS on Aug 22, 2008 at 08:24 PM
God be with the search and rescue crew and law enforcement, who will invariably have to deal with the trauma of finding this man's decomposing corpse somewhere in the woods. It takes a special type of person to go into a situation knowing that is what you will most likely find.

To ALL THE HEARTLESS PEOPLE ON HERE especially "askingwhy." You need to show some compassion for this family! This is a LIFE and you have nothing better to do but bring up his "drug use", him being an ex-con or how YOUR TAX DOLLARS ARE SPENT! Get a grip! You are only one person askingwhy! This man along with his family ALSO PAYS TAXES!!!! A man is missing and what needs to be done is the family needs prayer and encouragement! This I am sure is HELL to go through not knowing what happened or anything! They definitely don't need your negative comments and criticism! Put yourself in their shoes! If this was your family member, regardless of his past or present, you would want empathy and compassion, something you obviously know NOTHING ABOUT! Maybe just maybe this computer occupies the families minds! Why add salt to their wound? To the family: My thoughts and prayers are with all of you! I hope that lots of people turn out this weekend to aid in the search!!

What bait would you use for catching a Big Kahuna Tuna? Where would you troll? Normangee Lake? Roddey's Navasota river bottom? Williams place on PR4360? Give us some answers, Mr. Kahuna Tuna.

to amen asking why questions. The family pays taxes do you? The family was told to let law enforcement handle it. Do you know more than they do? Do you live in a tax free community? I dont believe they tax drug money if they did Normangee would be doing well.

Posted by: EVERYONE Location: Concerned on Aug 22, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Around the same time Mr. Martin disappeared another truck was found with the keys left behind on 79 by the Navasota river. that man has never been located to this day. Now Mr. Coleman is missing. There may be a serial killer out here. Travel in groups and dont go anywhere alone as mush as possible. This is the third time this has happend in this area in a year and a half.

Posted by: concerned Location: normangee on Aug 22, 2008 at 11:32 AM
your city council wants no law there!your mayor makes it a point to run off or discourage any officers that are motivated and trained in narcotics.now why do you think that is?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 22, 2008 at 10:29 AM
Amen to "askingwhy" comments. This is a lot of tax payer money for searching for someone who took his own path to drugs. It is sad for the family but they knew what ge was, let them go find him.

Posted by: to askingwhy Location: Normangee on Aug 22, 2008 at 09:40 AM
If it were your family member, you would like the same curtisy and respect. When you love someone it is to be uncondictional. The good along with the bad. It is my hope that in your lifetime you too will be loved regardless of your shortcomings. Not one person on this planet is free from sin. We all make mistakes. Thing is the people who care about you will love you regardless. And it is up to you to show that same love in return because I would bet there are a lot of people who love and care about you too.

Drugs Schmugs! Right now those who know Gene all know he always has a smile on his face and would help anybody so I challenge all of you to join in on this search! If you cant leave your house - maybe you can do web searches on past cases. Possibly get community business' to donate bottled water, snacks anything that may help the searchers. Thank you Linda for taking position of spokesperson for the family, one designated person needs that job and you will do great. Also thank you for getting Equisearch involved. Folks - trust me - this man is one of the funniest people you will ever meet. He is a Christian, He Loves God, his family, children and grand children. He loves his friends too. Doesn't waste a minutes time to help someone in need so lets find him! I wish ya'll could see his military files - he has accomplished so much and deserves even more. Now everyone - quit your snivilin and lets get to work - I bet he's needing a big ole chicken fried steak, a cigarette and a hug!

"You say you want to spend my tax money looking for an ex-con drug user?" Hey, even if they find that his pusher killed him over a drug deal, that's one way to put the dealer out of business for a LONG time, which is a GOOD thing.

Posted by: Bren Location: Iola on Aug 22, 2008 at 08:03 AM
Never in my life have I seen a more hateful hearted people than right here. Regardless of what this man has done, he is a human being, and deserves some respect. I hope he is found safe, and pray that the Lord will guide police to find this man.

Posted by: askingwhy Location: normangee on Aug 21, 2008 at 11:54 PM
You say you want to spend my tax money looking for an ex-con drug user? Why don't all these "loving" family members stay off the computer (cause I doubt he's sitting somewhere reading this) and go out and help look yourselves. If you spent your time doing this instead of going back and forth with everyone you might find him. Check out all the drug spots in the surrounding counties also.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 10:34 PM
I hope he shows back up. I remember Gene. Madison County needs some help.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Madisonville on Aug 21, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Here we go again. Why do drugs always have to appear. So, will the Sheriff say he was a known drug user? Maybe this can be tied in with Tiffany Bennett and Jerry White. They might have something to do with this. You know drugs affect all races, all incomes. Just a thought. They should be questioned.

Posted by: Keeping Up With News Location: Normangee on Aug 21, 2008 at 09:30 PM
Normangee should have been checked out a long time ago. DRUGS???? Many.... No law, for a long time. Read city of Normangee police report for the last 2 months. We need help in this area. Leon county does not care about Normangee. Madison County will come over into Leon side before Leon County will come down to help.It is unreal at the drugs. Lots of people move to Normangee, knowing they can do anything and get away with it. Lets pray for Gene and his family and hope for the best.

Posted by: Human being Location: Houston on Aug 21, 2008 at 08:06 PM
God is the one and only person that has the right to judge Gene. Stop the nasty comments because it is hurtful to the family. He is a missing person for God's sake show the family and freinds some respect. Shame on people who are so quick to judge this man and his family. Drugs are a demon that destroy lives and we all know someone that fights this tough battle. Once it touches someone's life you love then it will make sense. To the family don't let people twist your words and who cares what the nay sayers think? he is your flesh and blood and he deserves to be found. This is about finding your family member. I wish you the best and don't give up until you have the answers you need.

THANK GOD THIS MAN HAS A LOVING FAMILY WHO CARE AND ARE WANTING DESPERATELY TO FIND HIM. HOWEVER, THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY BLOGS ON HERE FROM FAMILY! MESSAGES BACK AND FORTH... JUST USE THE PHONE AND CALL EACH OTHER!! YOU KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO SAY WHAT THEY FEEL ABOUT YOUR RELATIVE,SO WHY UPSET YOURSELVES BY READING THIS? EVEN THE GRANDCHILDREN HAVE BLOGGED. PEOPLE, YOU ALL NEED TO BE TOGETHER, SUPORTING EACH OTHER, KEEPING IN CONTACT W/THE POLICE, AND DOING WHATEVER YOU CAN TO FIND INFO. NOT BLOGGING BACK AND FORTH, AND DEFENDING THIS MAN. DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT "THEY" ARE SAYING. THIS COUNTRY HAS FREE SPEECH, AND SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST NOT SENSITIVE TO OTHERS FEELINGS. ALL THAT MATTERS IS THAT HE IS FOUND, HOPEFULLY ALIVE. BE REALISTIC ENOUGHT TO KNOW THAT IT DOES NOT LOOK GOOD. BE PRAYED UP, AND PREPARED FOR BAD NEWS IN CASE IT TURNS OUT THIS WAY. I REALLY WISH HIM A SAFE RETURN; ITS' OBVIOUS ALOT OF PEOPLE LOVE HIM.

fishing for a kahuna tuna fish can be very time consuming, for this fish feeds on a very different time schedule. you would troll for this type of fish at all times cause there is no telling when he will strike.also the most important method for catching a big kahuna tuna fish is the bait you use.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 04:44 PM
"his drug habbit doesn't take away the fact that he is a father, and a grandfather." But it DOES suggest places to look for him that would be different than for someone who isn't possibly overdoseing or trying to avoid the law to get money to support his habit or hasn't been maybe targeted by an unhappy illegal drug supplier. It hurts me to say this, but after this long, I have a sick feeling that it will not end well, although I keep praying I'm wrong.

Here is a possible connection for you that everyone seems to have forgotten. A Normangee resident by the name of Mr. Jim Martin also disappeared with a Dawkins Road connection. As far as I know he is still missing too. Maybe it is TIME TO BRING IN THE FEDS ( FBI ).....

Posted by: angler Location: trolling the water on Aug 21, 2008 at 11:49 AM
the big kahuna tuna seems to be a very hard fish to catch.it seems as if you would need a certain type of angler that the fishermans society will not turn loose. kind of like a modern day captain quint. so untill they are willing to sign a contract to have this fish caught,he will swim and prey upon the victims with small iq levels all over the water.

Posted by: Why PAST TENSE on Aug 21, 2008 at 09:15 AM
First off, I hope this man is found alive and safe. My question is, why are SO MANY family members, whether in these comments or in the paper, referring to him in the PAST TENSE ('He WAS a good man') and talking about "closure". Is there something they know and are not telling law enforcement that might help? (Don't judge the information you may have - the tiniest little detail may help find him alive and well). DON'T GIVE UP ON HIS SAFE RETURN!!!! I'd like to think he wandered off to calm himself or collect his thoughts and decided it was nice to be alone for a while. Why not stay positive? Good luck in your search. I wish nothing but the best outcome.

ok folks - lets start gathering any and all information possible - even the smallest thing could find him. Talk to everyone you see - when you visit elderly at their home, ask them if they've seen anything or anyone out of the norm. Ask that farmer where Gene's truck was if he saw any vehicles slowing down to look at the truck. Who was the last one to see or be with Gene? Chances are this person holds pertinent information regarding this case. Go through any old bldgs, abandon and otherwise. Old barns. Scan the entire area. The police should have printed that truck the day it was towed! What calls were last incoming and outgoing on his phone. Check his truck for foul play. again - ask - seek - pray and we will receive. This man is a good man and is very deserving of any and all prayers. His family loves him very much - no matter what they may have said - we must find him! If we can put a man on the moon...We can find Gene Larry Coleman! Lets make this happen! United We Stand!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 12:25 AM
I want to let Gene's viewers and children know that not everyone appreciated the comments in the Bryan Eagle! Not everyone sees Gene that way. And were not giving up hope in finding him ALIVE and well!!! Sorry but the things in the paper were harsh and very unforgiving to the person respondsible. If I were you I'd crawl in a hole and not come out. You have not done anything but disgrace Gene and his children and family who love him and are worried to death. How would you like it if all your bussiness was made public. Thats what I though. The ones who Love Gene, lets not give up hope. Have faith in God. I Love You all. Gene is out there somewhere!!!! Please dont judge him on the news paper. He was so much mor than that. Gene we love you and will find you!

Ok,here I go. I have read each comment on here. Now, I am going to say something. I have been holding back being is I know this family and I know the MCSO. First and foremost, An oral statement is just as good as a written statement, Because what you tell the law, they write down. Secondly, I don't understand why the family waited so long to report Gene missing. I do know that if I cared so much, I would have reported as soon as I suspected him missing. Thirdly, as I stated, I know this family, and as close "contact" that some of them have with the law enforcers of Madison County, why did you not report Gene's missing before now. Madison County SO as well as other law enforcers can only work with the CORRECT information that they are given. I pray that Gene is found alive because no one deserves to be put to his or hers death in a brutle manner. I hope that Gene is found and if by chance he is deceased, then at least there will or could be closure to this.

all of this back & forth -- slandering the missing man and the sheriff's dept; is why these comment sections should be pulled. Everyone has a past, and no one's is perfect! And the sheriff's dept I'm sure is doing the best they can w/ what they have. If their really not , I'm sure that it would catch up w/ them. No one seems to like the police, but I bet they get called if someone in your family went missing, or someone broke in your house! And to Genes' family, my prayers are with you and hoping for a happy outcome.

like I said before, if u want to know what the department has done ask the Sheriff!! I know for a fact that the sheriff AND chief deputy walked the pasture where his truck was found. Police cannot just run out and arrest someone without EVIDENCE! Pick up a law book every once in a while. They alerted the media, checked the area, but they didn't find a body!! Why don't y'all call them and tell them what y'all think should be done!! Until then be patient, nothing happens over night! Best wishes to the family!

They however didn't know that your Sheriff's dept. could not do their job at all without the written statement. Now that after all these day's gone by you finally let them know this was the hold up. You are so good at your job. I hope you get a raise sooooooooonnnn!!!NOT!!!!!!!!!!!OUT THERE!

ok the trash talking needs to stop. my uncle gene has had a not so great past but hes my uncle and hes human. we all have done things or do things were not proud of. no matter what a family member does we should always stand by them especially in a case like this. and who are we to judge. lets quit speculating, judging, assuming, and come together as family, friends, community, and americans and find gene. if it was any of us in this situation no matter what the missing person has done in the past, or present we would all need and want help from anyone and everyone who could hlp. lets all come together as a family and let god take us to gene. we can talk all the "trash" after we find him lets just find him first. GOD BLESS ALL

WHY DON'T WE ALL BACK UP A MINUTE... LET US ALL RESPECT EACH OTHER'S WELLBEING AND BE WILLING TO ACCEPT IN ANOTHER WHAT MAY NOT MEASURE UP TO OUR OWN STANDARDS, AND EXPECTIONS. LET US FIND GENE, THIS IS ABOUT GENE. HE IS A FATHER, BROTHER,SON,GRANDFATHER,UNCLE, FRIEND,AND A GIFT FROM GOD AS WE ALL ARE. NO MATTER WHAT PATH WE CHOOSE, WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING IN OUR LIVES THAT WE ARE NOT PROUD OF BUT DON'T ADMIT IT TO ANY OUTSIDERS. REMEMBER CLEAN YOUR FINGER BEFORE YOU POINT AT HIS SPOTS.(HE IS WHO HE IS), AND I LOVE HIM NO MATTER WHAT BAGGAGE HE MAY CARRY. LET'S FIND HIM. ALL MY LOVE TO FAMILY FRIENDS AND WHOEVER IS OUT THERE THAT IS TRUE. REMEMBER GENE WAS CREATED IN LOVE. REMEMBER SEPARATE REEDS ARE WEAK AND EASILY BROKEN, BUT BOUND TOGETHER THEY ARE STRONG AND HARD TO TEAR APART...COOKIE SIGNING OFF. LET GOD!!

TO: TRUTH, It doesn't matter what a person has done in thier life, He deserves the same juctice as anyone else. We don't choose our family, God blesses us with them and you are to love them uncontionally,so is gene loved any less cause he is an addict no , If anything you let them know how much you love them we may not agree with his life style but family is family and we were raised to stand by each other through the good and the bad not to ever turn your back on someone in need after all we are all gods childern. So sugar coating no, thier is a man missing he is loved and it is law enforcements job to help find him reguardless of his back ground. If you were missing wouldn't you want someone looking for you just because you are an idiot we should still search!!

Posted by: R.M Location: NZ on Aug 20, 2008 at 01:00 PM
I'm sorry you miss understood the article in the paper about my Brother . No one is sugar coating anything.Yes he has done drugs. This does not mean he's out there on a binge. Your'e comment has upset my family greatly and has now caused a strain. I hope your happy. You don't know our brother like we know him this is not him .He didn't do drugs everyday .Besides that doesn't matter he is out there somewhere and we need to find him. He wouldn't hurt anyone .I can't see why anyone would hurt him unless he seen something or new something he shouldn't have seen or heard. Our brother is not "just another druggie"....he is a Veteran to the US army, a father of 6, a grandfather of 7, a brother, a son, an uncle and friend. Something bad has happened and we need to find him.We all have our problems but we are all human.

Dear Folks - please - lets not turn this into a HISSING match. Gene has not "wondered off" before, he doesnt just "leave" his truck - especially with keys, cell phone, and food for the week he was to spend on the ranch working. I spoke with him 2 day's before this disapperance and he was preparing to go work on this ranch because his main job was experiencing slow business. Gene has a back injury from an old oilfield accident and wouldn't wander far. He would only go off on a drug binge when things got too tough. We all have our vices. He loves God, He loves his family and he loves his children...HE DESERVES EVERY PERSON POSSIBLE PRAYING FOR HIM! Gene Larry - come home safe!

I have a friend that works for Madison County Sheriff's Department. He is a man of God and I know he will do his best to found out what is happening. Don God be with while your department works this case. I have know this family for almost all my life and they need your help.

Posted by: Responding to : the truth Location: College Station on Aug 20, 2008 at 12:24 PM
So what if he is/was on drugs? Sooo what??? That really didnt need to be brought out! Hasnt this family suffered enough? I dont know that he is/was on drug, but either way, he is still a person, still missing, still endangered. Everyone needs to remember the family before posting derrogerty comments. Instead of making hurtfull, damaging comments, lets all pray for Genes safe return.

Posted by: GRANDDAUGHTER Location: BRYAN TX. on Aug 20, 2008 at 11:30 AM
MY GRANDPA IS WHAT HE IS BUT NOONE DESERVES TO DIE LIKE THAT OR BE HURT IN ANYWAY, ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT HE IS OR WHAT HIS DRUG PROBLEM IS. SO JUST STAY OUT OF IT. NOONE CALLS YOU OUT BY YOUR NAME AT TIMES LIKE THIS.!!!! HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT HIM WHEN WE ARE HURTING FOR HIM.ITS PPL LIKE YOU WHO JUST NEED TO STAY OUT OF IT, AND KEEP UGLY THINGS LIKE THAT TO YOURSELF.......PS, HOPE NOTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS TO YOU!!! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: the truth on Aug 20, 2008 at 11:08 AM
well, now the truth comes out. while reading this article and these comments, i pictured this poor man helpless, innocent, wandering lost. it turns out he's a meth user and a crack addict who has wandered off before - this is not the first time he has done this, according to his sister, it just has never been this long. i wish people would stop sugar coating things and just tell it for what it is. 'our drug addict family member wandered off again, have you seen him?' i hope they find Gene and i hope he's ok, but this is not necessarily breaking news, maybe just another episode. prayers to the family, they need all the help they can get.

Rosie, Laura, Linda, and all other family members, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. I pray that Gene is found. If you need me, Rosie, you know I will help anyway I can. Love ya'll.

I don't think the police are anyone else should take the as you call it "trash talking" to heart, as in this situation people are confused and hurting, people vent sometimes it's just part of a job to understand and over look it as a parent I get alot of grap when my kids get fustrated that does't mean I'm not appreciated. As a nurse I get alot of very rude comments as they are also in pain,do I treat them any less of a person no I do my best to care for them because it's my job in the end everyone is greatful for your efforts and caring. So lets all pray for a safe return and for the grieving family.

I'm sorry for all the negative comments on the Law enforcement .I know there resources are limited.I also no it is not like CSI OR WITHOUT A TRACE. We need to stop bashing and concentrate on finding Gene.We thought he came back for his truck because we knew he wouldn't have left it for long.We were not informed it was still at that location until the Thursday following 8/14/08. As soon as we we were that is when we new something was wrong.I told the Officer and I filed a missing person report. So don't think we delayed because we don't care. We were unaware that he hadn't returned back to his Truck. He was supposed to go out of town to work that night. But never made it. So to the local Law Enforcement my regrets for the comments about you doing your job. I know you all are doing the best you can with what you have. Please keep looking Thank you all .

this just breaks my heart reading all these pleas from this mans' family. i hope for the best, but at the same time, i have to say it doesn't look good. have they found any fingerprints on the truck? did he have any confrontations w/any one prior to his disappearance? one blog says "we have an idea who you are." that leads me to believe maybe someone was angry w/him. i hope that anyone who knows anything will come forward, and help solve this. this family deserves to know what happened. i don't know much about madison county police, but they sure are being criticized. its'difficult when someone is missing, and it's easy to get angry. hopefully the police are doing all they should be doing. i pray for this family, and i wish a happy ending to this ordeal, but again it does not sound likely it will have a good outcome. keep sticking together family. you have many prayers going up on your behalf.

I'm not in Madison county, but it seems to me that if Gene went missing on the 8th and wasn't reported missing for a week, the Sheriff's office doesn't have a lot to work with. And given that they have also been working (and in fact pretty much solved) a verified murder during the same time period, I'd be inclined to cut them a bit of slack. They may in fact have some substantial leads that they aren't publicizing to keep a possible killer from taking off if he thinks they suspect him. Or maybe I'M the sheriff, posting this to see if anybody panics and flushes after reading it.

I USED to have faith in madison county....but after being around the situation and seeing the procrastination and negligence at hand...i dont feel that safe any more. Who can you trust if you cant rely on your local law inforcment in time of need. Rosie, Laura, and all other family members and friends of Gene, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Posted by: resudent Location: Madison county on Aug 19, 2008 at 10:51 PM
it's funny how when something happens people talk trash about the law enforcement in that area. If u want to know what's been done then call and ask the sheriff!! Last I heard, a grown man don't have to check in with his family. It's not a crime to not call someone. Secondly the sheriffs department was a week behind because the family who loved him so much waited a week to report him missing!!! Without a body there is no crime! May god help his family through this and return him safely!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 19, 2008 at 10:48 PM
Thank you to the officers in the Madison Co. Sheriff' Dept. for all you do - even when you are criticized by those who have no idea what a lawman does for a living. Just remember the majority of voters who pay taxes appreciate you.

siunds like this anonymous frm madison county got his feelings hurt he/she must be a part of the public service there. well we still havent heard that the sheriffs has done anything. probaly at the donut shop i know first hand that they dont get in a hurry to do anything and when they do they hurry up and to sloppy unjustice work....

Posted by: TERESA Location: MADISON CO. on Aug 19, 2008 at 08:36 PM
TASHA, I agree with you ,I THINK it is time the state was notified. This has been going on too long.Election is in november let'S NOT FORGET THAT ... THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE EMPLOYED BY THE VOTERS.....

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 19, 2008 at 08:00 PM
I agree with 7:05 pm below. I feel for the family and understand they must feel desperate. But finding a missing person is not a 60 minute process like it is on TV. The Sheriff can only follow the clues he has. Plus, in Madison County, the law enforcement officers have to deal with a very limited budget. Next time the county commissioners talk about improvements and necessary taxes, think about what services you want to receive before slamming tax increases.

Ewwwwwwww someones getting upset , why? Because Gene's family is speaking out? Hey its been 12 days now and has Madison County done anything? Dude u must be one off em sitting on your butt! I bet you sleep good at night. While this family suffers. Im 15 and I will go to the police academy, when im old enough. Gene's family God is with ya'll !

I feel really bad for the family, but I am really tired of everyone trash talking the Sheriffs Department. If people are so upset, why dont they go to a police academy and join a sheriffs department.

It has always amazed me that the Madison County Sheriff's office is still allowed to operate all the yrs of total incompetence and there they are.How many murders, missing persons, child abuse, beatings, etc. will be allowed to go on by the hand full of Barney Fifes? Time has got to be running out? Haven't they been investigated by the state? Shouldn't they be? Ivan, what do you think? I have to say there are a couple of exceptions, but there hands are tied by the rest. Uncle Gene you will be vindicated,my prayers are with your children and those trying to cope with this devastation, and to the men and women of Madison county God be with you.

We will see if they will publish this comment? I wrote a comment early this a.m. and haven't seen it yet. Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayer's for Gene and family. I have known Gene all my life and I know he is needing us to find him. He would call someone by now for help or to let us know he is safe if he was able. The Madison Co. Sheriff's Dept. has been too busy pushing cow's out of the road to work on this case. So, please Madison Co. community let up on the calls to the police for help with your cattle so they can find Gene. We all love you Gene and we will continue our search with or without the help of the Madison Co. Sheriff's Dept..Please everyone keep praying to bring Gene home safe. (I must have said too much the first comment I wrote that someone didn't like). COOKIE

I think it's probably time for family members to contact Texas Equusearch. They are a non-profit group that searches for missing people. There is no charge, and they have a very high success rate for recovering people. Their phone number is (281) 309-9500 and the website is www.texasequusearch.org Time is important and calling them shouldn't be postponed.
