Out with the hardwood, in with the dirt. Reed Arena is transformed into a bull riding arena in advance of this weekend's CBR Bull Bash Tour. The tour will make a stop on campus Saturday night and preparations are already underway.
It's an extreme make-over for Texas A&M's Reed Arena.
Forwards and centers are replaced with bulldozers and 18-wheelers as Reed takes on a new look.
To transform Reed Arena the basketball floor has been taken up, the bleachers pushed backed, and over 300-yards of dirt have been brought in.
Getting ready for white knuckle, high intensity entertainment.
It's the CBR Bull Bash 2006 a bull riding event with champion riders and world famous bulls.
"I love A&M, I love the campus and I wouldn't have it any other way that's why I brought it here," Joshua Carter said.
Joshua Carter is behind the tour's stop in Aggieland. As son-in-law to the company's CEO, and a current Aggie himself Carter thought Reed Arena would be an ideal location.
"This is the kind of venue that we need, we even do it in hockey rinks we put down plywood on the ice and put down dirt it's a complete transformation," Carter said.
After the dirt gets packed down, the shoots will come in, along with the bull riding icons like Tuff Hedeman, the four world time champion portrayed in the movie "8 Seconds." But, Carter says the event is about the fans.
"They really keep us energized," Carter said. "They keep the guys going and it's a blast I mean you've never seen a show like this. If you have never come you'll be searching for them to go to after you come to one."
And who knows what venue this organization will transform next.
The event starts at 8 Saturday night. Tickets are $12 general admission and up to $50 for reserved seating. You can purchase tickets at the Reed Arena box office, Cavendar's Boot City and Red Wing Boots.
