Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible, across the Brazos Valley, this afternoon and evening. Winds in excess of 40-60mph are the main concern, within the strongest activity. An isolated, brief tornado threat cannot be ruled out. Heavy rainfall between 1" and 3" has the potential to cause localized flash flooding in a few locations.
TXDoT says there won't be traffic delays, but a week's worth of hurricane training will give them an added presence on local highways.
Governor Rick Perry has ordered a preparedness exercise that will begin Wednesday and involves around 100 cities and counties in Texas.
While practicing for contraflowing roads, TXDoT will have personnel out on US 290 and Interstate 45. The roads will not be affected by the drills, and personnel will only be on the roads Wednesday.
Also, Brazos County's Emergency Operations Center will be activated as part of the exercise, which will consist of a Category 5 hurricane making landfall in Corpus Christi on Friday.
