Low Juror Turnout in Grimes County Murder Trial

Jury selection began Tuesday in the murder trial of a Montgomery man accused of killing a Navy service man.

According to Grimes County District Attorney Tuck McLain, only 78 potential jurors showed up for jury duty out of the 450 Grimes County residents summoned.

McLain says he hopes to have a jury seated Wednesday in the case of Brent Noland.

Noland, 20, is accused of stabbing Brandon Smith 19 times outside the Texas Renaissance Festival in 2004.

Smith was on leave from the Navy at the time of his death.

The trial is expected to last 2 weeks.
