Funeral arrangements have been made for the Neal Elementary fifth grader who died after being hit by a car. Veketrice Crenshaw of Bryan, 10, died Wednesday from severe head trauma after being hit by a car on Monday.
Family members shared memories with News 3.
“She would light up a room from a mile away,” said Cousin Jodie Harlan.
“She will be remembered for her smile. Just looking at her smile would bring joy to you because she didn't go a day without smiling," said Veketrice's mom Linda Moore.
Moore says her daughter would always lift people's spirits when they were feeling down. Now Moore says Veketrice is looking down from heaven doing the same.
“She was the type of person that if you needed something and she had it, even if it was her last, she'd give it to you. She was always trying to help people out," said Moore.
Veketrice was struck by a car while crossing Texas Avenue Monday night. She was just a block away from home. Her family says her last actions were probably to save her 2 year old sister who she was carrying at the time of the accident.
Veketrice was a 5th grader at Neal Elementary. She loved her school and her teachers. Grief counselors are on hand for students. This is the 3rd loss of a student for the school this year.
When Veketrice wasn't busy with school work, she was playing with her little sister and three brothers.
“Everybody called her Kee-Kee. She was a loving person to be around," said Harlan.
“She was a very sweet girl, big brown, beautiful eyes. Just a beautiful spirit, we're going to miss her," said Veketrice's aunt, Shannan Thomas.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2:00 at Savior's Temple on Groesbeck Street in Bryan. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 at the church.
The family has set up a fund to help with funeral expenses at First Convenience Bank. The account is under the name of Shannan Thomas. The account number is 428632004.
