"We are going to take over the White House!" yelled Barbara Nance Thursday evening.

Nance and around 200 others watched Barack Obama accept the democratic party's nomination for president.

Locally, they know its been a stiff fight to get this far, as area democrats were split between Obama and Clinton.

Bryan businessman Bill Kerr has been with Obama's camp all along. He even let Obama staffers use his office space.

"So when they left, they left a couple of signs," said Kerr.

Bill isn't afraid to show them in his office windows in the Galleria building. In the spirit of debate, his office neighbor put out a republican sign.

"We found it in the bathroom. They finally gave up when it started riding the elevator," said Kerr.

The signs aren't just for his office. Bill has been taking his message to the streets, literally. His car is decorated with Obama's picture and a quote.

Bill believes there are other people just as enthusiastic as he is, but maybe not as vocal.

"They're just afraid to say it in public, because of the business consequence," said Kerr.

Vocal or not, Barak backers say they'll take all the help they can get, so their hard work pays off, come November.

"We are going to take Brazos County. Its no longer going to be republican county, its going to be democrat county," said Nance.

To Proud Democrat: Just so you will know, my spouse was raised in the poorest of poor areas of Bryan and the family rarely had the basics, electric, water sometimes food. We still aren't wealthy by any means. Instead of asking anyone...not family, friends or government...for one single thin dime, we worked out tails off for everything we have. About others that aren't so fortunate? Anyone can have exactly and probably more than we do...YOU just have to get off your duff and EARN it, as we did. Oh and btw, we don't vote for the party, we vote for the person. Simply, Obama just doesn't measure up for us.

Some of you need a reality check, in the last 8 yrs we've had young people killed in a war that we shouldn't have been in, the man who perpetrated Sept. 11th is still out there, still plotting against us. We've had businesses lost to foreign markets, lives lost or been damaged by inferior products. Where are the regulations? Why don't we have higher taxes on foreign imports? The world laughs at us & who can blame them? We need someone who will be a representation of dignity, intelligence and a vitality to accomplish what this administration has not done. McCain is an old pooper on his last leg and just because Palin is pretty doesn't make her a qualified candidate. What would she do if one of her children was extremely ill and a crisis arose at the same time? Both parties are about equal in experience Obama (New) Bidden (Experienced) McCain (Experienced) Palin (New) so find some other arguments.

you know any of us could run for president. but what this country needs is an overhaul from top to bottom. in 1971 when Eisenhower stopped us from using the gold standard to produce money, and just start saying print as much money as you need, this is why we are dependent on other countries. you know our money has no value. So, we should not blame any president after Eisenhower for our problem. he did it to us. If you don't believe this look it up. This is history.

Democratic Party? HA! Maybe it used to be, but what else do you call HRC's talk of stealing Oil Company profits for redistribution 2 whom the Dems see fit? Now there's socialist healthcare, ins, welfare, etc, being shoved down our throats 4 our 'own good.' How will that be paid for? BO will rally 2 raise our taxes and then add more taxes 4 the UN Mil Program 2 'cure' world poverty (he said so people). If we cure poverty anywhere, it should be HERE first! Btw, I want 2 inform all you ignorant people out there that no matter what ANY pres candidate says he'll do in office, if the promise is anything regarding tax laws or any other laws, just remember that it is CONGRESS that passes the laws- not the pres. The pres cannot even submit a bill... I believe BO will hurt our country, so I will choose the lesser of threats to our sovereignty. BO is too eager to give away the farm. I do like the freshness of Palin as VP much more than BO as CoC. At least she DOES represent a positive change!

T: the only hypocrite here is you. If Palin would've done the opposite, you and others would've jumped at the chance to say how cold-hearted and cruel she could be. So she did what MILLIONS of others in the US, even in church pews, do and that is to choose life and love. Jennifer: I've noticed that you are the hateful one who calls people names, especially those who disagree with you. Just a little hypocritical. And to The Way It Is: I agree. I am a Republican and I am by NO means wealthy. I lived in extreme poverty and I pulled myself out by breaking that cycle and going to school. But neither the GOP nor the Dems helped me. Poverty is only an issue embraced by both sides every 4 years. But you're right, not every person who is Republican is wealthy. Just like every person who voted Obama is NOT stupid. Stop Whining: you are right. How did Bush damage anything? He didn't go to NO and break a levee. As President he was unable and NOT allowed to go. Oh well! McCain/Palin 08 & 12

Posted by: T on Sep 1, 2008 at 06:13 PM
Palin needs to worry about taking care of her 5 kids and now soon to be grand child by her unwed daughter. Talk about being a hypocrite! Leave it up to Republicans to pass judgement and try to tell others how to live their lifes, when their own lives are in shambles

Jennifer you have alot in common with a box of rocks. You have a victim mentality that is really sad. Unfortunately, so do a lot of people. Wise up people are losing their homes because of their choices. I'm sick of goverment that takes on the responsibility of lazy people that sit at home while the rest of us work to have the things we have, then take what we work for and give it to those sorts of people. Even if a mortgage co. told me I could afford a 500,000.00 house. I know what I can pay for. How is the mortgage crisis any more than personal responsibilty? So the mortgage companys had corrupt policies.. still. You need to wake up!We the people make America. We the people have allowed corrupt goverment. I'll take a unknown VP and War Veteran President any day over Obama. Obama with his church and spiritual mentor, his ties to Kenya and his visits to the East. I do not believe he is who he claims to be, sorry. Call me stupid, I don't care. I say you are in denial.

The way some of you think just amazes me. What makes you think that you are deserving of anything in this world? It should be enough that we live in FREEDOM (which means war is inevitable)in this country. We live better than most people in the entire world and yet you complain because your elected leaders haven't given you enough. That's human nature, to be sure, but this is rediculous! Who do you people think you are? Did you eat today? Do you have a roof over your heads? If you are able to post online then I would have to assume you're not entirely un-healthy. Be thankful for what you have and stop complaining because you didn't vote for Bush! You think the rest of the world doesn't know that America is divided? Especially when some ungrateful jerk gets on t.v. to bad-mouth everyone that doesn't give them what they think they deserve? Grow up, people! Fend for yourselves and help those who need it. You might just see a blessing come your way.

You better "Hope" you have some "change" left after Obama gets in your pocket!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 31, 2008 at 03:21 PM
People who work for everything they have are narcissistic. According to a democrat. Thanks for enlightening me, Jennifer. I have no health insurance either. It's not my problem or the president's that your grandmother doesn't have air conditioning. Mine didn't either until we all (my family) saved up and got a unit for her. I'm not proud of what we've done--that's just the way it SHOULD be done and it makes me sick that everyone expects a hand-out these days and then wants to blame the president because they're not getting what they think is due them. Oh and someone mentioned not getting a break from natural disasters since Bush has been in office: I don't think that any president is going to be able to make the decision as to whether your house gets hit by a tornado or hurricane or not. Democrats in Congress are stalling on a vote to help with the gasoline situation right now but hey, keep supporting them. That's your right. We've been at war under demo. presidents as well.

Just what kind of change is Obama promising? I still don't understand what he stands for. He is an unknown having been in the Senate for only 18 months! Yes, he is a great speaker. Love to hear him talk, but so far he hasn't said anything concrete. He said he was going to lower taxes, but at that same time he said we would be independent of foreign oil in less than 10 years. He wants everyone to have a college education and health insurance, but at the same time he doesn't say how he is going to go about it. I'm not going to vote for someone just because they can read a speech extremely well.

Posted by: StopWhining on Aug 31, 2008 at 08:06 AM
All I've heard from Barack and Co. is how they came from poor backgrounds and worked hard to achieve success. How ironic! YOU can't make it without big government help. I'm sick of hearing liberals whine about how Bush has "devastated" this country. Where is it devastated? Regardless of the endless mantra from libs, the economy IS fundamentally strong. We're not even in a recession as the libs and media would like you to believe. We HAVE made progress in Iraq. We did rid Iraq of a brutal dictator that Democrats and Republicans deemed a threat to the U.S. and the middle eastern region. And gas prices have doubled in the past 2 years - since the democrats have a majority Congress. They punish big oil at every chance, then complain about prices. Government taxing and regulating refining does more to drive up prices (inflation) than anything. Talk about immature! Democrats are so busy whining and blaming everyone else for their failures to come up with real solutions.

Um, isn't Bob the Builder's motto "Yes we can?" Just wondering....

First of all Barak is who God made him to be.He is an American citizen regardless of how. I can not believe all of the immature things I am reading from adults. However; what I do know is that this man deserves a fair chance to prove himself. He is a US Senator & he and his wife both have served this Nations through a mountain of Social works.President Bush has devastated this country, and America we have a problem. It amazes me how most people who claim to have work so hard at gaining their possessions without asking for handouts, but then again it amazes me that about half of the same has stolen to get where they are at. No one is asking for a hand outs, but no one is asking to have what little bit they have worked for stolen either.{ex.Enron..houses,}It is apparent that if you own a big time business, oil rigg, or come from royalties, that you will continue a Bush legacy. All I can say is that God does redeem, and with McCain, US want be redeemed.Examine your hearts!Rep~President Obama

To Anonymous, I find it very funny that all of a sudden you Republicans can predict the future and are so sure Obama will not succeed as President. Where were your predictions when you voted for Bush for two consecutive terms and watched this country go through war, an unsurmountable amount of debt, high food and gas prices, no relief from natural disasters, increasing college costs...My God I could go on forever. I have lived in College Station almost my whole life and I have watched gas go from 99 cents to almost 4.00 dollars all while this ignoramus has been in office. That is ridiculous! What must this country go through before you delusional and stubborn Republicans realize enough is enough! Please wake up and get out of your deluded little world.

Posted by: Jennifer Location: Bryan on Aug 30, 2008 at 08:18 AM
Myself and my family are democrats. I have worked hard in my life to make something of myself. My family's reward for our hard work: 230,000 financial aid debt for myself, a mother with severe health issues but no health insurance, no air conditioning, no benefits, nothing, despite working her butt off for her entire life! I wish these narcissistic republicans would start talking about the issues facing Americans and quit throwing out illogical and ridiculous comments such as that posted by "the way it is".

Posted by: The Way It Is on Aug 29, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Wealthy Republican? Sorry to burst your bubbles but I'm a Republican and I'm FAR from wealthy. That being said, I was FAR from wealthy when Clinton was in office as well. In fact, my whole family votes Republican and noone in my family is wealthy either. We work hard for what we OWN and we don't ask for handouts from our government. Sounds like some of these dems are just mad because they don't have as much as others who happen to be Republican. I call it how I see it.

OBAMA will win and we will be a better America and better humans as a result! GO USA; VOTE OBAMA! Those who do not vote for OBAMA are unintelligent humans who would rather suffer than make their lives better! Vote McCain; vote for stagnancy! Also, McCain's choice of VP only speaks to his attempt to manipulate stupid people into believing that he is not sexist. Please look at Palin's record and ask yourself this: If McCain were to die, is this the person you would want running OUR Country? I think not!

Our country cant afford OBAMA!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 29, 2008 at 03:38 PM
First of all, what race IS Obama exactly? Secondly, the Dems HAVE had a voice for quite some time now and all they do is act like babies and go on vacation when things don't go their way. Third, if you think Obama is going to allow you the American Dream without lifting a finger, you are DEAD WRONG. Nothing in this world is free and you'd be a fool to think so. How is he going to accomplish all he promises without raising taxes? In fact, has he even given anyone a plan as to HOW he's going to fulfill all these promises? I'm not a big McCain fan either and don't really like politicians as a whole but I know a RAT when I see one and his name is Obama. As far as affording insurance, my family can't afford it either. What we are doing is paying off some bills so that we can afford the monthly payments. What we AREN'T doing is asking the government for a handout because we ARE able-bodied. People like Obama because he's promising a free ride. Get real.

Posted by: Kyle Location: Bryan on Aug 29, 2008 at 02:18 PM
It's the standard tactic of Democrats to accuse anyone who does not support Obama because of racism. Most people who do not support Obama do so because of his radical, leftist positions on everything from abortion, to national defense, to the economy, etc.

Posted by: Proud Democrat on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:55 PM
To Native, let me guess, you are one of those wealthy Republicans and because of all the tax breaks and because you have the $$ you found loopholes that allowed you to keep most of your money. You say you contributed a substantial amount to your retirement fund, good for you, but what about the people who aren't so fortunate? You can't see Obama as President? You'll see it in January!!!! To Lisa, I'm excited for you and your children and other families, we have hope for the 1st time in years of having a president who cares about everyone, not just their wealthy cronies. VOTE FOR CHANGE, VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!

Posted by: John on Aug 29, 2008 at 12:33 PM
After reading all the comments I do indeed understand why people in this area vote for Bush and approve not only this administration, the past 8 years, but the direction the Republicans are taking this country. We get what we vote for and this is what they want. Go talk to a Republican ask them what they think and you will understand why they approve of Bush and McCain. They are happy with the way it is and in challenge to that is spun off with some ignorant rhetoric.

Posted by: Unknown Location: Anytown, TX on Aug 29, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Most of you in this are are not so concerned about Obama winning because of his political status, but because of his race. Time brings about a change and Obama is what we need to make the change. And for the Native Bryanite, i'm glad you were able to pay off your home in 4 years, but not everyone is fortunate.

Posted by: Native Bryanite - Location: Bryan on Aug 29, 2008 at 10:44 AM
The last 8 years have been great for us. We managed to pay our home off 4 years early, pay off debt and contribute a substancial amount to our retirement fund. Instead of whining, we took control and relied on ourselves, not the government, to make a better life for ourselves and our family. We aren't the type to sit back and wait for some politician to make good on some promise he/she made 4 or 8 years ago. It just took good old fashioned hard work on our part. In life, you get out of it, what you put into it! As to Obama being the next president, don't see it happening.

To Lisa, who do you think the majority has been in the House and Senate for the last two years? Instead of trying to help our troops and allow more drilling for oil this great House and Senate is more worried about pointing fingers and going on vacation. Obama has ZERO experince, and has never done anything to prove he has any presidential qualifications. The Russians will be correct in saying that America will fall from the inside if this joke is elected.
