A Montgomery County man is in custody, charged in the death of his girlfriend after attempting to kill himself.
According to police, Billy Jack Hough, 20, of Richards had taken pills Saturday night as part of a suicide attempt. He then got behind the wheel with his girlfriend, 20-year-old Caitlin Killen of Montgomery.
Just before midnight, Hough lost control of his car on a wet road near Sam Houston National Forest and slammed into a tree. Killen was severely injured, but Hough walked away from the scene. Killen died a few minutes later.
Authorities say Hough went into the woods near the crash in order to take more pills as part of his previous suicide attempt. While the accident is still being investigated, the wet road combined with the medication Hough took, were likely the causes of the wreck.
Hough was caught Monday morning with authorities working on tips. He was jailed on charges of manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid. Both are felonies.
