Authorities in North Texas say the twisters that killed three people also ripped apart brick houses and knocked out power in the towns of Anna and Westminster, about 40 miles north of Dallas.
Officails say daylight will allow them to get a better look at the damage.
Collin County spokeswoman Lee Hornsby says tornadoes struck near the towns of Anna and Westminster, north of Dallas, with at least one tornado hitting north of Anna.
An elderly couple were found dead in a destroyed home in the tiny town of Westminster, while a teenager was found dead at a separate location.
Officials are going door-to-door to check for any other casualties.
It's known the storm destroyed at least six houses and did other damage.
More than 100 rescue and utility workers responded to the area to assess the damage and work on getting power restored to about 300 houses that lost electricity.
