A state fire marshal is investigating a fire which destroyed one home in rural Walker County. The fire started at a two story home on Walker Loop around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Seven fire departments worked together to control the flames. The nearest hydrant was seven miles away so several tanker trucks were needed.
The home owner had just dropped off her kids at school when she heard the news.
"My neighbor called me and she was frantic and yelling and thought my husband was inside, but he wasn't. He's disabled in a wheel chair and her husband went down and broke down the door and the smoke was just barreling out, he couldn't even get in," said Shirl AlJaafreh.
No one was injured. A preliminary cause should be known by the end of the week.
